My other half said we'll take dibbs on the motorhome, to get some sleep. The ground will not be good for her back. I'm having slight difficulties getting my enhanced drivers license or passport card. My wife just sent off for her birth certificate. That will take 10 days. I have my birth certificate. Then I have to set up an appointment, to get the info to the right people. Then we'll get our cards. Which I'm sure will take a few more days. Going to be cutting it close. I'll keep you posted. I'm hoping to make it. Sounds like a good time.... If my car breaks, I'll need someone to trailer it home....LOL Remember, my car is driven daily.... I'll be driving it there, & back home....

My wife & I got our Enhanced Drivers License (EDL) yesterday. We now have a temp. The EDL will arrive in the mail within the next 14 days. So, it looks like we'll be there. Can't wait to meet new friends & see old friends...

Does an EDL work the same as a passport?

Craig, to answer your question about the passport. Yes, it does. A lot cheaper than a passport. It cost us $15 each, to get the EDL. It has a radio chip imbedded in it, with a unique reference number. No personal information. Have to keep it in a special card holder that has aluminum inside to protect the chip. When you cross the border, take it out of the card holder, just put it on your dash board & it will be read from, the RFID reader. It will have 2 pictures on it. The regular license picture & a biometric picture. It's digital technology to identify facial features that aren't easy to alter. It reduces the picture to a digital code or template. Then the software analyzes it for certain facial features & compares them to other facial templates, in the dadabase to verify your identity.
Everytime we renew our DL, it cost $25. Now when we renew the EDL, it will cost $40. Only $15 more. Not to bad. You can only go to bordering countries with the EDL. Which is Canada & Mexico. If I decide to go to Europe or Asia, I need to get a passport. I don't see that happening....

We have those licenses, here in Ontario, but they still ask us for our passports when crossing either way.

See......that is what I thought. I can't imagine the EDL taking the place of the passport. I just don't know enough and have not found out. It would be nice if it did.
