Timing problem-after replacing timing chain and other things.

    did timing chain.everything was set up correctly.did it over a 1 week period preping and doing everything with percision.new plugs and plug wires,new battery alternator and starter solenoid, fuel n oil pumps,distributor,rotor and cap, to add to it. car tried to start once or twice.and nothing.cant get to do much more.carb was rebuilt.6 months 2,000 miles ago. any suggestions.

    car sat for about a month in total from when it ran to rough and i deicded to park it and fixed it.obviously i havent fixed much tho.cause now it wont start.

    thinkin maybe carb problem.but cant even get to to start? ignition coil bad?

    1972 Maverick 2 door.Original V-8 3 spd std shift.Also a 72 one owner Sprint sporting a 351 Windsor
    Be certain you are getting fuel...spark.You may have to give the distributor a bit of a turn in one direction or the other to get it to fire off.If so...once it runs...set the timing and go from there.If you are still running points...Perhaps the condensor has failed.Throw new points/condesor at it if you havent allready as well.

    recheck your timing order. and make sure that #1 cly is at tdc compression stroke and the rotor is pointing to #1 plug wire.

    If all you did was stick your finger in the number 1 spark plug hole to get the number 1 piston on top dead center on the compression stroke, pull the distributor and rotate the rotor 180 degrees and try to start the engine again. IF the piston is coming up onto top dead center on the exhaust stroke and the only air resistance is a finger it can fool you into thinking it is the compression stroke. Been there and done that.
    Now I pull the right valve cover and watch the valves to see what stroke the engine is really on.

    and this is it.ive done all of that.each wire gets spark.replaced everything timing related electric wise with the exception of the starter solinoid.it gets really hot when the car trys to turn over. and when the timing was an issue it was like the entire electrical system for firing would just out of no where stop working.im goin to replace that today and let you guys know what happened. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!

    yup i replaced the starter solinoid. helpd a noticeable amount. sounds like motor wants to run like its brand new! but having timing problem still. its a consistent misfire like a old wire. im gonna double check everything.

    distributor had loose wire after closer look.thanks again for your help.car runs like a million bucks.:):):)
