I have some questions for the forum in my swap of engines for my Mav, I see that I have to replumb my steering linkage when I set my engine in the car. (1) I was wondering if I could raise my engine up 1-1/2 to 2'' to clear the linkage, (2) would that present a problem for transmission or the driveshaft. (3) has anyone installed a Ford Pinto rack & pinion if so is there and article in the technical section. I appreciate the support.
You should not have to change any steering linkage with a I-6 to V-8 swap.Do you have the proper V-8 frame stands (attach to the towers) for your swap??? the 6 cyl ones wont cut it.
I replaced the I-6 frame stands with V8 stands when I set the Motor in the steering linkage would not allow me to set the engine completely down because the sump of the oil pan is setting on the linkage. I apologize for the V6 reference.
What year 302 you got ... If it's late model you need to swap from rear sump to front sump. Need new oil pan, and pickup tube.
I had my V8 swap done without needing any changes to the stock engine position. I had to have my oil pan changed out too though, so maybe that's all it is.
Definitely sounds like you have the wrong oil pan...You need a front sump pan and oil pickup tube/screen.
