I couldn't find a set of ready made sub frame connectors for my Maverick. I called Summit and Jegs and they both checked with Competition Engineering and it turns out they no longer make Maverick connectors. Does anyone else make them? So I made my own. I used some 2" by 2" and 2' by 3" box tubing. I thought about cutting in floor but I decided against it. I stepped them so they fit under the floor. They have 10" on either end to weld to the front and rear rails. This is the picture of the second one I made (the easy one) The first one I installed piece by piece under the car. Once I had the measurements from the first it was easy to make the second. I obviously don't have a tube bender but I am happy with them. The last picture has the 9" housing I am putting in. I didn't weld that myself. I had it done at a race shop.
Nice job!Just make sure car is leval and doors fit good on stands (hoist) before you weld in,good luck.
Chassis engineering makes them http://chassisengineering.com/shopDetails.asp?CatId=10&SubCatId=22&ProductId=1545
Connectors Here they are. I also welded a square tube behind the rockers and four round tubes that connect the rocker to the frame rails and connectors. I copied that idea from a kit they sell for Mustangs. (see last pic) I did it because I have a 460 in the car and I want to do some performance work on it in the future. There will be a lot of torque involved.
Well the Maverick was never designed to house a 460. So I figured I should go"full out" with the connectors. I may get a roll bar in the future. I'm not sure. I like the sleeper look.
Yeah i must say i love the thought of a Maverick stuffed with a 460 and those frame connectors all the while having the SLEEPER look. "Yeah it's got a straight 6 in it". Sorta like a shark "Just" swimming around. Cool!
I am new on here.i like the ones the guy made .really look better and beefer than the chassis ingneeering ones ...how much for a set of them ?
I'm sorry but I am not looking to sell them. That was some else's suggestion. It takes too much time to weld them plus the cost of the tubing. I can't compete with the Chassis Engineering price.
Ya. I love it. Took it down because I'm damn sure somebody here was offended. Secret honda lovers....
