i may be picking this 69 motor up for 150 bucks, mainly just want heads, but if the rest is good might as well build it up. what do you think?

Give it a good once over if you can.If the seller will let you...pull the pan and pull a bearing cap on the mains and a connecting rod to see what the journals look like.If the heads are off check a few of the bores...Look for deep verticle scratches adjacent to the piston skirts.Look for cracks in the bores as well(can be very difficult to see) but look if you can.For a 150 bucks the heads are a good deal if the rest is scrap metal.Good luck!!!

    If it's a 69 motor, it'll have the C9OE heads too.

Look for discoloration(from heat build up)
    look for deep scratches.
Look for excessive wear at sides of the crank where the journals meet the throwes for excessive wear at the fillet(point where the journal meets the throw.

I used to have a C9 351W engine with Home ported C9 heads in my 71 F100. Ran real good with a 600cfm Holley and a RV style cam and headers. It ran a 10.01 in the 1/8 with a 3.73 gear and a lock rite the 1st time I ever tried racing it. Beat a hopped up 74 390 powered F150! I still wonder what the 460 would do. One of these days I will hit a local test and tune with it.
