when you switch to a front pan what is done with the dip stich hole in block? Is there a drive in plug or cut and weld?
I have a front pan and a timing cover with dip stick what I would like to know is what do you do with the hole left in the block after the change out is made? needs to be plugged, does someone make a plug or do you cut off the dip stick casing and braze it shut?
The options are up to you I suppose. I'm not sure if anyone makes a plug for the hole, but you could do exactly what you are talking about. I know a guy who left a little stub of the casing there and plugged it with a rubber cap. Works well and if he ever changes back he can easily remove it and put a new dipstick in. Others have mentioned filling it in with JB weld.
I think cut and plug is the solution, always lookin for a better cleaner way to do things. Thanks corbin. Mitch
I used a small expansion plug. Check the auto parts store with the rest of the block expansion plugs.
i just did the same thing moved my dip stick to the timing cover and some guys told me to tap the old hole and put a screw type plug in it. like with an allen head but make sure you use thread sealer on the plug
I cleaned mine well and filled with grey import RTV no leaks the 429 in my truck has been like this for 5-6 years no leaks or signs of future issues
i cut the end off of the tube, filled it with black rtv and put some around the outside and re-installed it. no leaks and cant even tell it's there
this thread is referring to the hole in the side of the block on the driver's side, not the hole in the timing cover
