vin coding

    i have a vin code L for the engine on my 76 mercury comet what size engine is this the previous owner took out the engine put a new one in it was a 250 cc i am putting a 302 in and was wondering what engine the car came with originally. thanks for the help

    thank you very much. what is weird about this car is that it already has a transmission crossmember. the sway bar i think is 7/8's pulls 7/8 on a tape it is the same size as my brother in law's 70 mustang stock with a 351w i took his engine brackets from the frame to the motor mounts and cant get them to line up with my 302's motor mounts.

    take an open end box wrench and that will tell u what size the sway bar is for sure. the sway bars are pretty much the same throughout the years, with very little size difference in them (unless u get into the full frame cars)

    Man, that's a small engine for a car!

    It's actually 250ci (cubic inches, not cubic centimeters). That works out to 4.1 liters, or around 4100cc.

    You need frame mounts that are specific to a Maverick 302. Ask on the classified forum here or you can sometimes find them on ebay. Also Autokrafters carries them, but they are $$$.:)
