Everything? It depends a little on which output shaft you have but the basics are: A new cross member (or fab a new mount for the stock one) A throttle pressure kit with brackets from Lokar A flex plate properly balanced to you engine (it varies with the engine year) A shortened driveline with the proper yoke for the transmission (there are two) A shifter (or modify the one you have to fit) New differential gears (around 3.5:1 minimum) Enough Mercon V to fill the transmission and converter A vacuum cap to plug off the vacuum source for your old modulator New cooler lines An auxillary cooler rated at 20000 pounds That about covers it as long as the AOD has been rebuilt or is in good condition. For added life install an A or A+ OD servo, 3-5 intermediate clutches, mechanical diode type one way clutch and the 7 clutch direct clutch kit. Install the TransGo AOD-HP valve body kit.

Because the block plate has the hole in it for positioning the starter against the flexplate, and it's location is different between the small and large bellhousing. I found out the hard way. If I remember right, you can still bolt up the bellhousing to the motor, but the starter holes don't line up with the ones in the block plate. You can't really tell from this picture that the starter holes don't line up unless you are really good , but this is my motor with the big bell block plate sitting in front of the small bell C4. This was back in 2004 right after we discovered the starter holes didn't line up. Ah what a frustrating weekend that was. My 77 had a big bell C4, but the new tranny had a small bell and I had already bought the special 157 tooth 50 oz flexplate. Rather than swap bellhousings and get an AOD flexplate, I bought a small bell block plate from Craig. I still have the old one for when I swap to an AOD.
Thank all for all the information. I am copying it for when I am ready to tackle the conversion. Sounds like a Winter project.
AOD... and make sure you get the converter for the shaft spline you have in the transmission...don't ask me how i know...if it's a stock AOD you will have no problem... it's no more than swapping C-4s...put the correct flexplate on the motor, drop in the correct converter, put on the motor plate, slide on the AOD, install the crossmember you bought from me and that's it...AOD installed... check the overall distance from bellhousing to the tip of the tailshaft on both transmissions...that will let you know if your driveshaft will work. important note: get the pigtail from the...donor AOD...you will need it to hookup backup lights and safty switch. ...Frank...LMAOD
Do not forget the TV cable and getting that all set up to the right pressure. I added an AOD to my 71 F100 back when it had a 351W in it. What a nightmare getting the Lokar TV cable and lever to work right using their directions and gauge block. clint
sorry to hear that... i didn't know about the... gauge block. if you have a holley carb. they make a recalibration bracket for the carb...($20), it worked great on mine and a few others on here... ...Frank...:Handshake
Guage block...??? nope didnt know bout that one either. There is a recalibration bracket out for the Edelbrock/Carter carbs also (yes also about $20) didnt really take that long for me to set it up.(seemes like it took more time waiting for the stupid stoplights to change so I could test it out properly)
