I have a question about the 1973 Maverick/ Comet. I have a 1973 front bumper with the smaller bumperettes so i know that the '73 Maverick has them but are there bumperettes also on the rear smaller bumper. I think that they are on both bumpers and not just the front. Anyone have the right answer? Thanks.(y):drive:

My 72 Comet had rear bumperettes originally. Replaced the rear bumper with a really nice plain one.

Still have the bumperettes on the front and plan to take them off ... don't like them ... makes the car cluttered up IMO.

Yes ...had them on the front and back, with rubber facing.

Yes...and they are a one year bumperette ('73 only). My '73 had both, but I removed them (the chrome was flaking) - see the pic in my sig.

Thanks all for the info as i thinking about changing to a '73 front. One other question then.............. if you remove the bumperettes on the front or rear where are the holes that are left and will you be able to see them on the face of the bumper?

On my 72 there is a bolt that passes through the upper plane of the bumper. If I remember right, there is just a clip that folds over the lower edge of the bumper on the bottom (I can't actually get a good look at it right now) ... I am going use an extra chrome-headed bumper bolt in that hole when I remove mine. Crossing my fingers that the chrome is still good under there ... ;)

There are thin bumpers that came without the bumperettes and were never drilled in that location. I imagine that there should be 73 bumpers out there that are smooth too.

When I removed mine, I just put a bumper bolt in its place - nobody notices (see the pic below). There are probably '73 bumpers out there without holes, but I imagine it would be hard to find. It seems like most '73 bumpers have trim and bumper guards. I was happy to find mine without trim. I like the trim, but it always in bad condition.

Thanks guys once again, now here's the funny part, i really like the '73 front bumper. In fact i some how have two of them ( both need to be rechromed) and i have a pair of perfect unused bumperettes, so i might keep the bumperettes on the bumpers, i guess it all depends on if i get a rear small bumper with bumperettes on it or not. I'm just asking questions ahead of time.:D(y)
