You ever wonder what would have happened to the Maverick if Ford would have kept it around? I'd like to hear some ideas of what you all think such a car would look and/or be like. Personaly I think it would be a smaller cheaper version of the mustang, possably with a bit shorter wheel base and more defined lines than the original Maverick. Maybe something between a Mustang II and a Maverick? Maybe... What do you all think?
pic wasn't what i expected. i forgot they still made mavericks. why couldn't they let the name rest in peace or save it to revive it properly? if they had KEPT the mav, i agree with Thelgord, a sort of a base model to the mustang with fewer options and lower power engines. more likely though, it would survive only as a trim level, like the impala before 58, a extra trim package for the bel air. maybe a family-oriented mustang package? with less brightwork and more cupholders? a fold-down carseat in the back for the young-un's, and a more ordinary paint scheme. I can just see the commercials. "the ford mustang Maverick edition. for the sporty family."
Somewhere I have some sketches I made of what a late 1980s maverick could look like... yes, I drew them in the late 80s.
Actually i wouldnt want new maverick our cars being un heard of is what makes them turn the most heads.
I did some renderings of that several years ago. Actually there's a thread on here somewhere. I dont think there are any pics now because I cleaned out my attachments.
I have to agree with the statement that the Maverick is cool because of obscurity. I also kinda like the idea of the "Family Sports Car". Would have never thought of that. While Maverick may be the model the model that ford had tried to forget, it has survuved, kinda like the way Star Trek survved the early years because of sindication. When you give the people what they want, they will love it....
imagine walking onto a car lot and driving off in your brand new mustang mav edition, after your family closes the back two doors... interesting
