Picked up a 9" axle today from a '71 Mustang, complete less brakes and drums. Already has spool or at least limited slip and about 3.90ish gear for $140.:dancing:

    Great score! (y)
Do you happen to have the measurement from flange to flange? I have two complete 9" rear ends and both are exactly 52" wide. A Maverick is about 50" flange to flange. I'm just wondering for the purpose of checking into axles for mine.

Yeah, the guy was house cleaning. He he's knows it's worth more but was tired om moving it around. I saw it on craiglist this morning. I promptly called him to see if he still had it, then went and held up the atm, then snatched it up.

If you mean axle flange where the wheel bolts to it's about 61 inches. It's wide but I'm already running late model rims with spacers. If you mean tube flange I'll measure it tomorrow after work.

Yes, the tube flange as if there were no backing plates on it, from outside to outside.
    Thanks

It's 56.5 inches as best I can measure with everything still on. Hope this helps!

Ray,on 90% of all Ford rears, you can take housing lenth and add 5" and you will be within 1/4" of actual lenth, housing end to axle flange is either 2 1/16 or 2 1/8 on 8,8.8 and 9"

I pulled the axle apart today to change the oil and peek inside. I took a more accurate measurement and came up with 55 and 3/4" tube flange to tube flange on the outside. I also wanted to see if it was a posi or a spool and to find the exact gear ratio. Turned out to be 3.89's and posi...gonna be fun!!
