If you have hooked the battery up like its wired now you will have to replace the fusiable link. The big wire you have grounded is the HOT from the battery. The Orange capped wire is the field the other is the stator.
Naaaa, I've cut back, it's that time of year again, I have to get in shape so I can wear my "Maverick" swim suit.
I feel as if I just solved something that I didnt know about....Im kinda scared to post anymore pictures.... I guess Ill move the wires around tomorrow and see what becomes of it, I thought as long as I wasnt having any problems it was right...whoops Thanks for the corrections guys, much appreciated.
This is what I had in my head but wasn't exactly sure. JPS, now we both know Oh, and so does PAINTANK
DUDES! I got this thing hooked up correctly now and as soon as I find and replace the fusible link I will attempt a drive. I am getting pretty stoked. This is definitely why my car ran for a few minutes and then stalled with a dead battery. No wonder. I hope I didn't ruin the alternator...
The fusible link will be attached to your solenoid. It's pretty easy to find without any special equipment. The insulation on the wire may possibly be melted but most of the time it does not. You can simply pull on each of the wires one at a time and the link that is burnt will usually be real stretchy. Matter of fact you can likely pull the correct wire and it will just break apart. As stated above, replace that portion with another fusible link or in-line fuse.
Yep you remember correctly. JPS has 2 terminals wrong. Daves pic is correct although blurry. The ground on the Alt goes to the metal tab that is moulded into the rubber harness.
Man. Okay, so I get under there and look and I see two wires hanging. A green and red one and a yellow one. They are supposed to be on the clip that plugs into my voltage regulator. So I install new clips and plug it up correctly. Those two wires being broken off would have affected my cars running too. Bad stuff gentlemen. The fusible link feels okay. Not melted or damaged or stretchy. I am charging a battery to start it up.
