Okay , I've winged my way through till now and really need some defined help. We are stuffing the small block in today and will be doing the wiring/ign. tomorrow. I need to get a better understanding of the ign. convert and what I need. We had a 250 six 1975.What do I need to do. Jamie clued me in on the blue ign. module and stock coil. I let the coil go with the 250 when I sold it,but we have a accel coil will it work? or am I better off buying a new repacement. Of course the small block has points dizzy now ,but I have a dizzy from an 80/5.0 electronic which I beleive will work. will I have to change plug ends at the dizzy? This should be somewhat simple but I need from start to finish the process. The original wiring harness is still intact in the car. Once again I call on the Maverick gods to save me! We are working on a very tight budget so for now we need to get by the most economical way possible. Thanks for the help guys,
    Mitch

There is also a write up in the tech articles section.

Being a 75 though, the 6 should have been electronic.

If so, the box and most of the wiring should be the same.
If your 80 distributor has the right plug, it should be fine.

    Edit:
You need to research though. Just about every year back in the 70s, Ford re-arranged the wiring positions in the plugs. So you can actually have plugs that line up and plug, but the wires are in the wrong slots. I have no idea about 1980, but there is no reason to believe they did it any different that year. So you might have to do some wire switcharoos.

I think some of this is described in the write up on this site.

Another option is an HEI conversion. I have ot on my F100 and like it OK.
I know some people won't put chevy parts in their trucks or cars but I get by this by thinking that it is an aftermarket name. lol
I got tired of the Duraspark boxes breaking on me.
You can run just about any coil they say and can run straight 12v. to it
Here is a link explaining it. It is very cheap and you can hide the 4 pin module very easy

My 77 Comet was a 6 to 8 car. The 85 GT Mustang Duraspark distributor plugged right into the harness. ;) It's not that we object to GM parts on a Ford,:biglaugh: but HAVE YOU EVER SEEN A SBF WITH A HUGE ASSED HEI DISTRIBUTOR BLOCKING THE VIEW OF THE CARB ? :rofl2:

Thanks guys for the info,I made a trip to the bone yard today and got the hole setup. I got the dizzy, coil ,module, and the wire loom for $35.00
wish the rest of my day was that good. We did get the 302 set in the bay and bolted up but ran into some bolt problems. I did a great job of planning out the big items but missed the small (big) things mainly bolts for motor mounts and bolts for frame stands. opps! The engine looks very nice in that freshly painted compartment. I will have pics for you guys tomorrow. As far as the plug in for the module looks like we'll have to switch some plugs but I got all those at the bone yard today. should be pretty straight forward. Getting excited can't wait to here her run. I almost wish this was to be my car, this build is for my son. Mine is next!
    more tomorrow. Mitch

Yeah you loose the cost advantage of going the cheap way and buying a chinese distributor over an American made Ford, MSD, Accell, Mallory whatever that is the right size for a ford by having to buy another air filter housing be it an offset housing or triangular filter or one of those tiny wannabe motorcycle filters.:rofl2:

Also another option is to use the stock dizzy and put a petronix point eliminator in it allot of guys have done that, my brother did it to his 4 door and it works great.

Yeah those are some ugly distributors. The 4 pin module is all I am using and it doesn't say chevy anywhere on it. lol Just in case though I have it hidden way down on the inner fender below the battery and the relays for my head lights. Unless you look you'll never see it. I hate seeing a nice looking 302 with that huge distributor in front.
I am still using a Duraspark. Works good and is very easy to set up and cheap.
I have put the Pertronics in a couple of buddies trucks and they had no trouble. Then I have heard of other people having a lot of trouble. I think most of the trouble it the confusion directions about whcih coil to use with which Pertronics set up.

I've used Duraspark, Pertronix I & II and Crane's Xr-1. They're all good. You DO have to pay attention to what coil's used with a Duraspark too though. I had fits with the Comet's Duraspark till I swapped coils.
