I am going nuckin futs. It still won't charge and I have no idea how to wire this up. I have diagrams and schematics but they are like ancient egyptian algebra to me. I was told the fat wire is the ground(GND), the red cup goes over the white post(FLD) and the black cup goes over the black one(STA) which leaves the red one(BAT) with no wire. Any way I do it there aren't enough wires. 3 wires, 4 wire attachment places. The voltage regulator and solenoid are new. I want to drive my car now that the weather is nice and not just until the battery dies but all day. This summer is the summer I add the headers and 4 bbl.
I think that big black wire is missing it's "Red" cover, and ring terminal, that goes to the Red post. The ground is usually off the side of the black molded part....
White/black wire goes to the STA(stator) terminal...(the black one) black/orange wire goes to the "B" terminal Orange/Light blue wire goes to the "F" terminal (white one) The ground connection should have a seperate ground wire that goes to chassis ground or the the ground terminal on the battery. This is what my wireing diagram showes for your car.Hope it helps you out. Good luck.
The big black wire goes to the hot side of the solenoid, doesn't it? it has a fusible link on it. That would short the positive side of the battery to ground, the way you have it. I went out and snapped a picture of one I had.
Like you said. The thick black wire is grounded and will blow the fusible link. So it will not charge even if it gets corrected. It may be that it has been blown before and that's the reason it seems nothing will work.
I think he's referring to the position of the of the connection's, yours is different in the way it is spaced out. Look closely, and you will see......
theyre spaced the same, if the IP had the red cap next to the black cap it would be the same space apart. Or maybe Im just looking at it wrong...all I see is the wiring harness coming in from the other side, which shouldnt matter, the cables will still hook up in the same places.
Look at the distance of the black cap to the orange...plus, you said yours was "Exactly"...some people are pretty fussy.
JPS... The ground bung on the harness on your setup is connected to the stator terminal on your alt instead of the GRND terminal and your stator wire is connected to the GRND terminal.Thats whats wrong with your picture. The other wires are in the correct place. If I remember correctly...This will cause your altenator to allways be charging... Even when it doesnt need to since that wire is supposed to switch the alt on and off through the voltage regulator.(IF I remember correctly that is)
Sorry but this is definitely not right. The small black cap that is grounded should be on the other side of the alternator where is says STA (stator). There is also suppose to be an insulator under the nut on the stator terminal. The insulated terminals are correct in the 1st photo above, just the large battery wire is in the wrong location. The large battery wire (missing eye) should be bolted to the large terminal with the red insulator.
