hey. Just bought a 1971 Maverick with a 250 yesterday on a whim. This will be my first restoration project. Does anyone have any tips or special things I should know about '71 Mav's before jumping into this?
Welcome,Make sure to take pictures of any major assemblies that you knwo will be aprt for a while and label all your bolts!
Welcome to the board. Good luck with your new project. If you have any questios about things, go to the search feature and type in what you need and all the past posts on that subject will show up.
Welcome aboard! Best tip is to visit here daily and use the search feature a lot. If you don't find an answer, ask away!!! :Handshake
Welcome. I agree with every one else, take lots of pictures and label every thing you need to. Last thing you need is to be curious where that last bolt goes:confused:. Also keep us posted about your progress of your project (We love pictures and stuff to read). Most of all good luck with your Maverick. To own one is to be one!
to the board! Buy a set of the factory shop manuals - forget about the little Chiltons books - these are extremely detailed and worth every penny. Find them on ebay for around $60 set and make sure you get the complete 5 volume set. and like everyone said - take lots of pictures and label everything! .
Thanx Thanks for the welcome. Yea, I worked on my '85 Stanza and then my '91 Oldsmobile alot and got tired of fixing worthless cars. I like the tip about the shop manuals. A Chilton came with the car along with an Auto Krafters Maverick parts & accessories catalog. I found the interchangeable parts book for ford/lincoln/mercury I think on eBay, it's on its way. I'm looking forward to this one.
The whole 5 book set or just one book? Link? I did get a full set of 1970 a month or so ago for $25 - that was a deal!
I found that is really helpful to de-grease every part that comes off and re-paint it. then there are less and less places to get you covered with 35 year old experience. have fun
have spent a ton of money learning about this car...never knew about the windshield removal for the headliner or the cowl probs...however i would rather work on my ford daily than drive a rice burner...and thats the same value i am trying to teach my boys...there is always a muscle car project if you buy american
