Want Good caliper, seals, and rotors

    I believe it is the rotors that are most significant. What are good rotors for a comet? I need a right front side, should I just replace them all?

    if you have the means and the funds, you can NEVER go wrong rebuilding your brake system. it's one thing to go, but it's a bigger thing to stop (y)

    Well I am new to the game so I did not think of that. Is that a hard job? Is it more costly? I was just looking into putting a new set of the same parts. How would a disc brake conversion differ and be better?

    Car would brake better and you won't have to put that much pressure into the tires when braking unlike the drum brakes. They are a hell of a lot safer to. YOu could just convert the front brakes and leave the others drum if you like. I'm in the process of doing this conversion myself and so far the guy I bought the parts off of from here said it's pretty easy and can be done in one afternoon.

    But like I asked in one of your other threads, shouldn't your car already have disc brakes? I'm assuming it does since your name has 77 Comet in it which I'm assuming is the year of your car.

    I am not too sure. I am waiting for my jack stand to come in and in the process of getting the rest of some basic tools I need to get under this lady and take a looksy at everything. It is taking forever, or so it feels, to get things going but I am gathering as much info as possible.

    are your front brakes worn out?
    most autoparts stores offer a cheap, a middle of the road, and premium line of brake parts.
    do you know how to bleed the brakes?
    Brakes are pretty simple but if you dont know what your doing you can mess them up and make the car unsafe.

    front disc brakes are easy to bleed. do the pass side first. Make sure bleeder is at the top and crack it open and wait for the fluid. gravity feed. Once you see fluid close off bleeder and the ck master to see if needs more fluid in the largest part. then crack open dr side , wait for fluid and walla, all done. Because he has a disc brake car the master doesn't have to be removed, therefore no need to bleed rears unless he unhooks rear lines. works for me this way all the time.(y)

    His 77 already has front disc brakes and decent sized rear drums.

    Any good auto parts store will sell quality parts more than adaquate to do a good job. Find a friend that is very skilled at brake jobs to help you do the job. Brakes are not the place on the car to be learning auto mechanics by yourself. Even with a manual to guide you - best to have some skilled help.

    Thank you all for the advice. Hard to be a newbie at things like this. I am thinking I will look for someone to help me with learning the job. Maybe a post on craigslist.
