Ah, If you're modifying the shock towers to install a big camshaft you're putting it in the wrong place...... but I'm only guessing here:rofl2:

I have power steering and hate it. To easy and no feeling like Dennis says. It's not a video game, enjoy all the car can offer in experiance. Don't hide the mechanics

    Manual Steering!

My Comet came with power steering. It leaked. Fixing it became enough of a ritual that I would repair the return hose on the ram and then promptly walk into the house and mark the calendar 6 months to that day to know when I would need to fix it again. No lie.

When the 351 went in, I converted it to manual steering.

Cruising around with 205s on the front, you hardly miss it. Parallel parking isn't that bad for me, but I'm 6'1 and 200 lbs.

On the other hand, riding shotgun, watching my buddy with the shoulder injury flopping around trying to park it at slow speed was a riot.

Only a really good friend can laugh at your misfortunes and get away with it.

I would upgrade to a modern rack and pinion set regardless of if you use power steer or not. A new unit won't leak and will give better road feel.

I HATE those old worm screw steering contraptions with linkages and crap running everywhere.

I voted for a manual rack and pinion.

I'd love to have one but the cheapest and only kit on the market right now is from RRS. At around $1800, it would make more sense to me to spend another $700 and get the Rod & Custom MII kit. You get rack & pinion, disc brakes, and no shock towers.

what about the rack conversion that is in the technical articles???

BTW, I read in the Ford Muscle's Falcon Forum that someone was using a Dodge omni rack, maybe you could research it.

If it works & don't leak, leave it alone. If it needs work,I'd can the power stuff & go manual. With regular type front tires, you can still one hand it going thru parking lots and slow turns. And you can feel the road better with manual.

The power steering system on these cars was problematic when new. Top that off with little road feel and i say manual is the only way to go. The manual has much better road feel and unless you have big fattys on the front its not hard to park at all. Also depends on which steering wheel you have. The size makes a big difference in effort and feel.

I just replaced all my powersteering parts for new ones. And it cost me about $450 from checker auto. Doing the job myself.
I decided to keep the power steering cuz the car is all original, and wanted to keep that look. But if it was anything else I would have taken it out. And used the p/s gear but changed everything else.
    Just my 2 Cents.
