:huh:The guy i got it from race years ago said it came off one on there 289 race motors, he found it in his attic. But if its right hand rotation why is it the same as mine. Mine is for a counter clockwise rotation right.

The one you show in your pics of both is the same rotation as the 289 cover. I don't know what direction it actually turns, but its what a std rotation waterpump is. The one I show in my photobucket site without a fuel pump boss is a reverse rotation cover for a 86-93 Mustang. Also used on the 86-97 E & Fseries pickups and vans with the 5.0 & 5.8's. The cover you have was used on the 86-91 Crown Vics, Lincoln Towncars and Merc Marquis 5.0's. These had std rotation waterpumps.

Is my explanation of what covers you have not clear? A std rotation pump will fit and work on either of the two you show in the pic. So will a reverse pump from a 79-85 Mustang (this is the only reverse rotation pump that fits the std rotation covers) In 1986 Ford revised the timing covers for the E & F series and tha Mustangs to improve the flow with a reverse pump. In doing this, they reversed the coolant ports (see my pics to illustrate what I'm talking about)

Just so you no the one on the right in the pic is a 92 stock motor and a stock 5.0 timing chain cover so your and mine are different. Not sure why though.........

I don't know what pump you're planing on using, but if you use a reverse rotation(try to just forget about the direction of rotation and go with std rotation or reverse rotation);) pump for a 79-85 Mustang on those covers you will not get the best cooling pump due to the flow being ass-backwards for the cover's porting. If you're suing a std rotation pump,(this includes all pumps from 1970to 1978, regardless of application) you're fine with those covers. If you're using a pump for a 1986-1993 Mustang or a 1986-1997 E or F series 5.0/5.8 you'll need a different cover (like the one I show in my photobucket pic that has no fuel pump boss.........that's the one in MY picture, not your's, they're two different covers, even tough neither has a fuel pump boss)

The 5.0 H.O. Mustang & the Crown Vics have the same timing cover. The water pump itself is the difference. I have a 5.0 Mustang cover, a 5.0 Crown Vic cover, a 5.0 F-series cover & a '72 Maverick 302 cover here in front of me. The truck is the only one with the oddball water ports.

The one on the right also does not have a place for a pump it was run with a fuel pump. The 289 has a place for a pump.

The only 5.0 Mustang timing covers that are identical to the other std rotation covers are the one's used on the 1979-1985 Mustangs. The 1986-1993 covers have the reversed coolant porting that was also used on the 1986-1997 Pickups and vans.

One more time: the two covers you show are both std rotation timing covers.

I know what I have in front of me. The fact of the matter is, A TIMING COVER FOR A 1972 MAVERICK needs to be used. Are there any objections to that? We're all trying to help!!!
