1 - $9 A Can!!! Was $5 just a few months ago :16suspect 2 - Anyone used this through a vacuum hose on an old straight six? Ive heard stories of people running it through a high milage engine and then having the engine burn oil. Think an old straight six w/ 200k will handle it like a man? Rebuilt the ingition system but it still doesn't start or idle quite like Id like it to.
what is it?is a decarbon like cleaner?if so i use the motorcraft carb and choke cleaner #cxc 52b.drawn through a vac hose works awesome.just smoky

I tried it once to clean carb parts. I was not impressed. I tried it first spraying it through while it was running, then later when I disassembled the carb. It did nothing either time.
When I first bought my Comet. It hesitated & idled rough. Never saw freeway speeds all it's life. I bought a can of Seafoam. I figured it was built up with carbon. Instructions said pour half the can through the carb while running. Helps to have another person to help keep it running. Then pour enough to stall & kill the engine. Empty the rest of the can into the carb. Wait 10 minutes & start. I almost sh*t. The car smoked somrthing awful. I thought someone would be calling the fire dept. I did it behind a bowling alley, in the parking lot. Must have smoked for 10 -15 minutes. The first 5 minutes was the worse. Big white cloud of smoke. After it was done smoking, took on a test drive. Ran like a top. No more hesitation & idled great. I swear by Seafoam, if you have a carbon problem......My 02 cents.....
You're full of crap. j/k...not my fault i haven't had a good experience with the stuff I have heard some good stuf and some negative stuff about it, and my experience has been not so good. I hope someone else gets the good results like you did.
Earl would had. ATF will clean (and smoke) the valves/combustion area too. We have poured water down the carburetor to steam clean the carbon off the pistons/valves. Just a few drops at a time though until the cup was empty. If you pour too much at one time you run a chance of damaging the engine...water doesn't compress like air.
what happens when you put a fluid (water, sea foam, etc) through the intake is it flashes in to steam in the combustian chamber and this steam brakes down the carbon in the combustion chamber. the method described for pooring in sea foam is really scary. if you get enough in a cylinder it will hydrolock. that where the amount of fluid that enters the cylider is larger than the combusion chamber when the piston is at the top of its travel. what results is the piston stops and if your lucky the motor stops running if you not lucky the rod bends or the piston brakes. ive always done the decarbonizeing with a 1 cup of water sucked through a vac hose that is pinched down so it will barely suck it in. on our motors there is less chance of damage from hydro locking than there is on modern import motors. if you dump fluid streght in that with a honda i garentee that you it will bend a rod. running a fuel system cleaner is a good thing to do. what it really cleans is the carbon depostits off the intake valves. this can make a huge difference in how a motor runs. ive had really good results with the cheveron with techron fuel system cleaner.
for carbon i have always used a Windex bottle of water and sprayed in to the carb and it did a good job on the carbon build up..... if its a carb problem ive always rebuilt it... better than a quick fix....just my
That's exactly what my car looked like after putting Seafoam thru the carb..... Never seen so much white smoke pour out of the tailpipes..... LOL How did it work? Did it get rid of the carbon build up?
