pictures and instructions for notching the shock towers?

    Need to notch em and make a little more room.

    also how do i get my drivers side exhaust manifold to not rub on my steering box?

    There is no "correct" way to do it. And the header will always hit the steering pitman arm. Do it a couple times and it will dent it an appropriate amount and problem is solved.

    What size engine?
    Why would it be rubbing? Is it an engine swap? Wrong mounts? Wrong manifolds?

    Anyway, you can grind excess bumps and ridges off both the manifold and the steering box.


    Example... This steering box was ground for header clearance.

    If you just end up with a 'dent'... If the tube is 'crushed', then the headers just don't fit! ;)

    Thanks all for the help. yes it's a engine swap from a 200i6 to a 302. has correct mounts and correct manifolds but when i rev my engine up it rubs the steering box.

    Sounds like a broken engine mount.

    If it is not, then a mount or manifold is not Maverick.
    302s mounted in stock form just don't have this issue.

    Or your frame is bent.:huh:

    Will do. looks like i can make one fairly easy.

    The frame is all good it's just a really tight fit.

    Nyu huhh... Mine is a Comet and the parts are all Comet. Aftermarket headers for a Comet w/302 and it touches my box. I don't have the bent tube problem you showed in the other post tho. Not sure what you mean by "stock form" when headers are being used. Did our cars come stock with them? :hmmm:

    Old school, chains where used and it still works today.
    Also, I have used turn-buckles.
    If you have the skill, make a limiter...custom is always cooler :thumbs2:

    I agree with blu on this...i have a 302 car with headers. When I put them on, they immediately hit the pitman arm. I had to make several turns at full chock before they finally dented in the tube so they would no longer hit.

    I have read that this is a common problem.

    And I mean SERIOUSLY DENTED the tube, not just a little nick here and there. I lost about 20% of flow on that tube from the dent, maybe more.

    He said "manifold"... I have seen plenty of headers hit.
    Manifolds don't hit.

    You are correct... I didn't catch that in the first post.
    My pitman isn't close to my headers. The only spot is on the box at a bolt head. It has rubbed a hole in my header wrap and I havn't even driven it yet. :(
