Anyone know the average cost of having the shock towers cut back? My estimate is $500. Thinking about this for a Cleveland of Windsor since I have two available for purchase, courtesy of my cousin. plus It would be nice to have the towers outta the way to give a little header space. Also how much are Cleveland headers for a Mav? In the autokrafters catalog they're listed for $560-or so.

it cost me $50 to have mine done. :D
but, that was back when I had coil-over/ladder bars put on; during the process, while it was in the shop I ask about cutting the towers. He did not understand what I wanted, so I printed a TECH article from this board and showed him............ he said how about $50. :thumbs2:

you can cut them back if you want but you wont gain any header space, it will only help in replacing plugs

as for cost, i dont mine myself with the help of my brother-in-law and didnt cost me a dime. it was one of those "priceless" moments :D lol

Tubular automotive has them. On Auto krafters, Remember, everything they have someone else makes it for them. Tubular Automotive ones are at least a $100 bucks cheaper, and come in pieces for a slip-fit after you get them coated. best ones out there people tell me. Good size primarys so she can breathe. Think about 2 1/8 dia, Great for racing.

    AK sells Tubular Automotive headers.
If you go right to Tubular, and cut out the middleman, you knock off $100 or more.

Last I heard, they were less than $450 from Tubular directly.

$500 sounds awful high for shaving the towers.
I was quoted that for replacing a roof! Including all glass removal/replacement. Much more work than shaving the towers.

Also, you won't gain direct header clearance as posted previous, but you will save your sanity trying to get to the plugs and the header bolts!

$500 bones is a rip for a shock tower job.
I like how they did your towers Ford Ride. Moving the existing inside panel inwards makes it stronger, instead of a cut piece of flat-stock. Havent decided for myself which route ill go yet. But if I just shave, it will be like yours. Looking at the coilover set-up with stock lower mounting point. Some guys are using Fox mustang coil-over struts and fabbing the lower a-arms and upper strut mounts. Once you get the bumpsteer and camber/caster laid out, your set. Kits are too expensive. I like the fab part of this hobbie more that anything.

there is a set of brand new tubular automotive headers on ebay right now. says they fit early mustang falcon and maverick with a 351c 2or4v.
i just got a set from the same guy. looks like nice headers.
i have put them on an engine but not in the car.
cyl # 4 and 8 cross under the oil pan. right now those two tubes are a little short of meeting up with the collector. i think its because my aluminum heads ports are .4 of an inch higher than the iron head.
i think i can fix that with a tourch. i have to bend the front two tubes slightly to clear my T-oil pan anyhow.
they are selling for $300. pluss $25. shipping
just punch in 351c tubular headers

Got about $15 in this shave if you count the cost of cut-off wheels.

That's a huge red flag there!
They are not interchangeable between 2v and 4v heads.
So you have to wonder why he says they are...:naughty:

i have seen other headers claim they fit either head also. i dont have a pair of 2v heads anymore so i cant say. but the tube looks like the 4v port.
i know headers for a 2v wont fit a 4v, but it is possable it could work the other way around.

I'll have to check, but I believe there is not enough iron on a 2v port exit to even cover a 4v header flange opening.

The thing I know for sure, from having a few sets of Tubular headers, is that Tubular says that their headers don't interchange, even if some others can.
