Last weekend I hauled the white Maverick out to Pennsylvania for it's "transformation" treatment. Yes, it's going to become a "Stallion" clone via the talents of Dale and Jean Doll. I know it's in good hands, as they have a love and passion for these vehicles, and their past work speaks for itself. It was about a 12 hour drive, and it rained almost all the way out there. I told Dale and Jean that I'm in no hurry, so this is going to be their winter "fill in" project, and I'll drive out sometime in the spring to bring the "Stallion" home. In preparation for Dale & Jean to start, I stripped the body side molding, window trim, and wheel well moldings. I also removed the bumpers, antenna, side marker lights, and lower dash unit (I'm also having them re-paint the interior). The ten footer that she was anyway, looked pretty tough on the car hauler! However, it's all part of the process. Can't wait to see the results, looking forward to having my black and silver "first car" back the driveway sometime next year. Art
A little birdie told me they were doing a stallion paint job. I wondered if it was yours. It is in great hands. Dan
You will definitely receive a first class job. I have seen many of the cars the Dolls have done and their craftsmanship is second to none. Hardest part might be getting the Dolls to release it back to you. They do need to road test it ya know.
I envy you. If I could afford it, I would love to have someone do my Sprint for me. Not sure I have the ability to do a first class job, like you're going to get.
WOW ,it look like you have a real nice body to start with ,it should look just awsome ,i cant wait to see the before and after pics.
Nice to see Dale and Jean working on another Michigan Mav... You'll love the results, they do great work.
Congrats... but when you pick it up, you better have a tag along, cuz you know your gonna want to drive that thing back home!
Who, me? Thanks for all the kind words everyone. This Maverick is going to be a real pleasure to work on. It will bring back a lot of memories of when we did our old Stallion.....with one major difference. Unlike our old Stallion, Art's Maverick is as solid as a rock. I don't think this car has ever seen one drop of road salt in it's life. You just can't find a virtually rust-free Maverick in this part of the country. That's what's going to make this project so enjoyable. :bananaman
Not sure there will be that many "clones" out there to create a special registry, and I know mine will be a "misfit", not really belonging to either group, but no matter. I'm not concerned with it being "authentic", I'll be happy just getting a car that "looks" like my first car. As far as progress pics, they will come in due time. There is no rush on this project, and Dale and Jean are busy with other cars, so once they get started, I'm sure we can encourage Jean to post a few as they go along. Jean did tell me that she's working on painting a few of the trim pieces as she's taking taking them off, then boxing them up for the re-assembly in the spring. I'm going to order some new rubber moldings from RPS and have them sent out to Penn, as well as new re-pop door handles. Thanks to Dan for clueing me in on utilizing the old mechanicals (push button) on the re-pop door handles, something I wouldn't have thought would work.... Art
