ya, i try. ive been having a hard time finding that kind of stuff from other members when i run a search
You thinkin' about cutting those shock towers yet? ... ... try it, you'll like it ... Also, a regular full-length oil filter will be pretty close to the tower too. I notched there because it looked like if the engine torqued over, it would bend the filter. You can run a shorter filter, too, but I forget the original application. I am also going to upgrade the driver's motor mount on mine ... maybe drill it to run a bolt through it to act as a limiter if I can't find better ones. My car has been breaking the passenger side tailpipe hangers repeatedly, and I am sure that it is because the motor is rocking around too much.
I did a 351W in a Maverick back in 1979,, the 302 Manifolds will work but will hit the shock towers,, and If I remember correct there was an Oil filter issue as well,, The front springs have to be 302 W/AC for the added weight of the Windsor,, the stock 302 W/out AC will fail in the near future,, Been there done that,, part # CS-8306 Front Springs From Advanced Auto parts,, I have a new set here ordered 3 months ago,, But I gotta tell you,, It was a fun ride,, Looking Good keep up the Good work Joe
The weight difference between a 302 and 351W is 40 lbs. The aluminum intake manifold pretty much evens that out. Still good advice on the front springs. I still have the factory original 302/AC springs in mine (AC is stripped out of mine) and they have a coil cut. Still feels like it needs more. Might go with 620 lb springs (Mustang aftermarket item) for better handling.
Tight, ain't it !! Have you put the plugs in it yet? How are you going to change plugs or plug wires down the road? Bet it will be swift, anyway. Good luck with it. Jim
he'll prolly have to pull the engine up, or snake them in with a peice of vacuum hose (dont ask me how i know this ) looks good though! ever decide what manifolds you'll end up using? i have a set from a '65 Galaxie 289 that ill be using in mine untill i get around to building my own headers
im getting a set of tublar automotive headers from my buddy in november. i fugure i should just wait it out rather thenbust my knckles on manifolds as far as the oil filter, i'll probably just get a relocation kit from summit if i run into an issues that sounds like a big car to get tight manifolds from??
The old Mopar V8 oil filter is just a short FL1A equivalent. Or you can relocate. Tip: If you relocate, set up the filter so it hangs down, rather than stands up. It is less messy to change that way. Also might let the filter empty while sitting if it is standing up. Edit: If you relocate, and want to try a larger filter, there are long FL1A filters made. The FL1A is considered a "1 quart" filter. They made 1.5 and 2 quart versions for trucks. Moroso also copied the 2 quart version and sells it as a 'high capacity racing' filter. But it costs more than just tracking down the truck filter number and buying it through your local parts house. I ran the 2 quart relocated for a while. More filtering, longer oil life, cooler oil, etc... Just a thought while it is being discussed. Oh, and there is a skinny filter too that fits the FL1A mounting surface. I forgot all these numbers, that is up to you. The skinny filter looks like the FL400A, but I don't think that is the one.
size of the car doesnt really matter considering they put about anything on them back in the day. the ones i have are just as small as falcon versions but breath just a little bit better and they dont have that funky exhaust hook-up on the driver's side
