When I was 18 I had a my first Ford Maverick which was a 1970 with a 302 automatic small cam headers four barrel intake a carb, with grabber hood. I sold it two years later, I regreted it. The person that bought it totaled it 2 days later. I have searched for another Maverick to fix up and build and I finally found one. It is a 69 1/2 Maverick with only 57,000 miles everything is original no tears or body damage no rust very amaculant. It has a 200 6cyl. I am putting a 400m with 292duration 536 lift, double roller timing chain, dual point distr,750 holley double pumper, 3000 stall converter with shift kit and blow bell housing, with 8 1/2 in ford rear 456 gears. It will be done in 2 weeks. Cant wait!!!!!!

It is a 8.8 rear out of a comet. I will drop the motor in within the next 2 weeks we measured and the valve covers are 4 inches over shock towers carb will be out of the hood. I am just laying the motor in and welding steel plates for mounts. I will let you know how it goes.. I was going to do a 302 but everyone around here has 5.0 mustangs with 302's and I wanted something different. My motor is a 6.6 liter.

What year comet did the 8.8 come out of. Hope that motor is not too heavy. Are you doing any suspension mods? you know, there's a reason there's not too many 400ms in Mavericks. 351w can be stroked to a 408 or more and a lot less headaches. Hope it works out for you. BTW welcome to the board.:)

If it will be done in 2 weeks, you must have most of it in hand and worked out.
Come back when you got pics!

Btw... Welcome back to the Maverick family!

I'd like to see pics of that.
My 351c had about that much clearance, but is a narrower engine.
    Doesn't quite add up.

I was thinking the very same thing. I had a lot of knuckle bleeds messing with spark plugs near those towers. Also my hood shut with no problem with the Cleveland. How much taller is an "M" engine anyway?

The size of my 400m from valve cover to valve cover is 26"wide the motor is 24" tall from ground to the stock valve covers and the other valve covers i am using is a 1" or 2 taller. from the ground to my carb it is 32". on my 69.5 mav from shock tower to shock tower it is 24". I know the spark plugs are going to be a pain in the but hopefully i can burn holes in shock towers enough to get the socket thru. I am going to order shorty truck headers hopefully they will work. I am waiting on my bellhousing and stalk converter to finish the car. if anyone needs a c6 I have one that came out of a 79 lincoln. i know i can fit the 400m in mine my buddy has a 460 in his.

That's what I'm a thinkin'. Unless the engine is going to sit up out of the hood like a Zinger.....
