But my little '71 two door Maverick isnt. I've had her for two years. She's in pretty good condition with all original everything, only one previous owner. Everytime I think I'm over it and try to get rid of her I can't bring myself to do it. I love her so.

So I've decided to keep her and give her a little makeover. First things I wanna do are replace the vinyl top and get the paint buffed out. Then she needs a nice sound system (so that I can enjoy driving her again). I think that would take care of things for now.

In the long run I'd like to get the few little dings smoothed out and have the paint totally redone, maybe change to a darker color (she's yellow now, with remnants of a black vinyl top) and rechrome the bumpers. If I could have an after market AC installed that would be amazing (L.A. is hot in the summer!).

My questions are - has anyone tried installing AC into an older car? Also, I've seen lots of gorgeous Mavs on here but no one seems to have the vinyl top like my girl. Would it be better (or possible) to have it removed and have the whole car one color?

Ultimately I'd like to have her looking like a super bad ass 70's muscle car. Any tips or ideas would be appreciated!

I'll try to post some pics soon.

    Thanks!

    ~D

    Welcome aboard! :Handshake
It's nice to see more ladies joining in to the madness. There are a few cars on here with vinyl tops also. You might try typing in vinyl top in the search box above. I'm sure you'll find some posts discussing them and will likely have some photos for you to look at.
Again, great to have you here! :)

the a/c is pretty involved but it is possible

and yea, pull that vynal top off asap and get it 1 color. most people remove them not only cause they look lame but because they will cause your roof to rust out since they trap water

bad ass muscle car huh? get a hood scoop, loud exhaust and some cool looking wheels/tires and you should be good ;)

:Welcome:to the board...... I had a vinyl top on my Comet. I did away with it & painted it black. I can always install a vinyl top later if I so desire...

Thanks everyone! What a cool group. I will probably skip the vinyl top and just save up to have the body smoothed out and the paint totally redone. Should be a very exciting process! I'll post some pics as soon as I can and hopefully as I go.

    Welcome from Pittsburgh PA!

Agree here! This will allow you to see condition of roof and smooth it all out. If you decide later on vinyl then you can do! From factory lots of times they did not finish roof lines very well when they put vinyl on. Good Luck!
