im bidding on a factory intake on ebay, im geting it real cheap. the plan is to sand it down and paint it gloss black or somethin. i was just wondering if you can have an intake ported for better flow and about how much it would cost if it can be?

Hard core racers will actually cut a manifold in half to get at all the ports/runners and so on.If you are running a fairly mild engine on the street you wont see much gain in porting an intake. If you plan to wind the wee out of it,then its worth the effort.Ditto for port matching.

you can find good used aftermarket 4bbl aluminum intakes for 50-100 bucks, why waste time working with the factory stuff?

if your after an actuall factory maverick 2bbl 302 intake i got one i can send you for the price of shipping. its a '77 intake

Yep! all that work and he got 8 more HP at 6300 rpm. and less HP at 5000rpm!!
Buy a good intake - they are designed better and have larger ports - the design part is where the HP comes from, not the size.
