If I cut one complete coil off of my springs, it should lower the front considerably, correct? My other question is, will I have to have different shocks?

Are you using the stock springs? Your shocks will be ok.

Be careful,go a 1/2 coil at a time, once the c/arms go past leval she'll drop a lot with just a 1/4 coil cut,and you can junk a set of springs in a hurry.

Use a cut-off wheel, sawzall or hack saw...do not use a cutting torch. Give the car about 3 weeks or more to settle to see if it's sitting where you want it before cutting another 1/2 coil from the spring.

Thanks for all the advice. I know it will throw off my alignment, but i want a lower stance. I got new tires today and I went small on the front, way small. 185/60r14 and I squeezed in some 235/60r14 in the back. Some shackles and cutting the coil will most likely get the appearance I want. Looks kinds silly right now. Big Ol' Tires in the back with no fender gap and little ol' tires in the front with alotta fender gap. To add to the goofyness, I took out the busted grill.

Good advice...especially since the 70 springs will likely be fairly low to start with since they are for a 6 cyl car.
You say you are looking for a lower stance, yet you are putting shackles on the rear? :hmmm: Not too many fans of shackles on here.

Shackles for the rear are going to be made by my father. 1/2 inch long then the stock shackles that are currently in place. Just to put a little gap on my back tire. Should I not do the shackles and just stick to cutting the coil?

Do your tires rub the qtr panel lip? If they fit under the lip without rubbing, there's no way I would raise the rear up, especially with shackles.

They do not rub. Thank you for all the excellent information. I just want it to have a rake appearance. I'm not worried about the tires on the front, since they where cheap. Has anybody cut their coils on a straight 6 car and how did it turn out for you?

I'm running 6 cyl springs on mine uncut.

Yes...and it will make a difference. If you have a 6, then you will probably need to cut.

Thanks, I do have a 170 Six Banger. I dont plan on stuffing a V8 in it anytime. SO, no shackles, no air shocks, cut coils and maybe new leaf springs when the moneys better off.

On my Falcon the 6 cyl springs are longer than V8 springs...the more coils the softer the ride. If you want to see what one coil cut did goto http://1bad6t.com/6t_front_sus.html
