Hey All, I purchased a V8 cross member for my car this past weekend but the previous owner had lost the bolts that mount it to the car. Can anyone tell me what size the bolts I need? I tried a couple out I had laying around but neither work. Aside from going to the hardware store and buying various sizes, I thought one of you might know.

    Thanks,
    Luke

You'll have to excuse Frank sometimes...he's retar ... I mean retired. Sometimes ya gotta spell it out for him.
Seriously though, it takes a special chamfered bolt for this crossmember. You can put a regular bolt (seems like it is a 1/2" course thread) but it is not going to center properly. You may be able to make some type of washer or sleeve to take up the slack.

Come on Frank! I couldn't get by if it weren't for my paint fumes! How do ya think I got so good lookin!!!
Oh...belly bar is just a "slang" term invented by the Maverick guys for the bolt-in crossmember that goes under a v8 engine...hence...v8 crossmember. :D

Thanks Ray, I pulled a bolt out of my Mustang "V8 crossmember" and noticed it had a tapered bolt. I was hoping Ford had changed that in the years following, but no luck. I'll figure out something to make a bolt work.
Oh and didn't this crossmember only come on V8 cars? Hence the name...

    Thanks, Luke

You can buy those bolts for Mustangs, from National Parts Depot.

That's good to know. I may buy a couple just to put up. I've got a couple of loose crossmembers without bolts.
