Don't think I am being a "kno it all arsehole" or something.
I come off that way sometimes.

I am just trying to help.
It could very well work on that model carb.
I just know that vac Holleys don't take to it.

    Good luck, and nice carb.

I like the fact that they have very few places to leak from.

Well, we haven't had TL for awhile we need it from somebody!:rofl2:
I think there is an article in Mustang Monthly this month about those carbs, unless I was reading an old issue.

I have a couple of comments on that:

1: It was designed to work that way... I don't know exactly what was done, but it was something.

2: I don't know about your carbs, but they used to put a single pump, with a 4 way squirter on those, so it did actually have a squirter, just one pump to feed it.

3: That's all I have to say about that... (Gump)

I probably just missed one of these a couple of weeks ago. A very rusty '65 T-Bird had just hit one of my favorite yards, and the carb and taillights were already gone before I got there... doh!

The counter guy commented on how "that T-bird sure is getting a lot of action today".

It was fun looking at all that FE motor crammed in under the hood.

i suspect that when you make the carb mechancial secondary you could enrichen the accel pump circut to help it out.
when you do the mod does the secondarys open at the same time as the primaries or do they open a little bit later than the primaries?
oh and sorry about my spelling, i know it sucks.

I think that is the same carb that is on my grandfathers 1975 F-350, Ranger XLT, Super Camper Special 390CID engine, and I would have to agree that it has been one of the most reliable 4bbl carbs I have ever seen. That truck did nothing but sit for the last 5-10 years and as long as the battery was charged you could pump the gas pedal 3 times and turn the key and she would start everytime. It doesn't leak down like a lot of other carbs do so that after it sits for any period of time you have to crank and crank and pump the hell out of the accelerator to get gas back into the carb.

I guess using that Carb you'll be able to use a stock ford/mercury (4bbl of course) air breather and keep that stock/sleeper look.

The bracket was adjustable. I always had it set to start kicking in about half throttle.

I used to run those carbs back in the 70's. I still have 2 of um. I agree, best carb ever. I just drifted over to Holleys in the late 70's and never went back to anything else.

    They are progressive.

The accel pump would be out of juice (or nearly out) by the time you needed it for the secondarys.
Also, what do you do when you don't need the secondarys and have a mega-pump shot?
What do you do when you are cruising at part throttle and jam the secondarys suddenly? At part thottle, jamming the throttle further will get no pump shot, therefore leaving the secondarys high and dry, even if the pump shot was beefed up.

Also, the pump also only holds so many cc of fuel.
The Holley standard pump holds 3cc, while the high cap unit holds 5cc.
    (on average of 10 strokes)

Really. Cause theres one sitting in storage from about two years ago out of a ranchero I bought. I thought it was going in the maverick but now im not so sure.

EDIT: Are you talking about the block or the carb. Thats a lot of money for a core carb

Just the carb. It has to have the right #'s for a hi-po 289. Thats what Ive been hearing they go for.
