As some of you know I have been working on my 4 wheel disc conversion. I got granada fronts, and followed Frank's(71Gold)post on modifying the Lincoln town cars rears to fit the mav's rear end. I also did something different in the way of the master clyinder I used. I looked up and old post about 4 wheel disc and saw that OldMan recommended using a dodge 79-93 D100/D150 master cylinder for it's bigger bore and dual reservior. Adding to the fact that I decided to run an adjustable prop valve for the rear and you can probably see how this could turn from easy to slightly difficult. Well every thing went smooth up until plumbing the MC. The stock brake lines from the stock prop valve to the dodge MC don't fit, even though they are the same size and pitch. I had a helluva time figuring that out in the middle of a brake bleed. The fittings you would need in order to make this MC swap sucessful are 9/16"x20pitch. Easy right.....Wrong. Good luck finding these anywhere. I even went to a local hot rod shop with every imaginable fitting on the wall but NO 9/16"x20's I ended up hitting the JY and robbing them off of the truck the master cylinder is made for. Still uses 3/16" line but the fitting has a tapered end spacer that takes up the slack in the line. This taper is not on the standard fitting. It's a total oddball size and fitting. I also called Dodge and they can get them for you, but they have to be ordered, 2.50 ea. I went to Pick and Pull and got two sets for 4.88. I called a dismantler and they wanted 20.00:16suspect So thats it, get the right fitting first and save yourself a headache. I just thought i'd leave you all with this bit of frustration er... information.
Thanks for the info! I'm doing the same thing, but I decided to use Wilwoods 1" bore master cylinder, I'll see how the fittings fit tomorrow...
Well everything is all done now, bled and finished. I did have a couple leaks from lines I reflared, so I reflared them again. All is good. Pedal is nice and firm and honestly feels like too much brakes, which is always good. I'm off to get some sleep to wake up and hit the JY for the parts for my serp belt conversion in the morning. Later
I went the easier way and bought this set up. It is for 4 wheel disc and the stock Maverick lines hook right up.
Where's the fun in that? J/K That looks good, I'm sure it'll be a lot easier not to have to engineer the system yourself, but thats how I have "fun".
Engineering stuff is alot of fun but sometimes its way easier and better to go a different route. In my case I was engineering a Escort power unit to fit. Spent a whole weekend on it and then Mavdog71 makes a post, and I go, sh.....t, that is way better and easier than what I was trying to do. Also wasn't that much more expensive than what I would have had in mine.
yeah I remember the escort one you were doing. I wondered what happened to that. I know thats gonna look real good when you get it in. The booster option would be nice too I think. The manual setup I did feels really good, just gotta get the engine, trans, shifter, etc... to be able to really test it out.
What about just using a Granada master for a 4 wheel manual disk? Theyre super cheap and should be a bolt-on and work right.
