Hello all! My name is John and I'll start with a little bit of a story... Back in the early 70's, my grandparents bought a Maverick, lightly used maybe a year old. It had a 200 I6 and a 3 speed auto and was fire-engine red. They drove it about 100,000 miles and my dad rebuilt the engine in the garage; gave it a little more get up and go by having the head milled down, tuning, etc. He borrowed it a lot, drove it all over, and took it to North Carolina and back a few times when he was stationed at Cherry Point, NC. They then sold this car (starting to rust a little bit) to a friend of my dad's, who then with the help of his daughter put about 300,000 more miles on it before the car broke in half (literally rusted in half). For being kept outside all those years, being involved in numerous teenage girl fender benders with that much mileage, I'd consider that the very essence of the motto Built Ford Tough. I've been looking around for a muscle car project. I've been looking at the usual... '69 Mustangs, Torinos, Skylarks and Cutlass's and I've noticed two things. 1. Everyone has one of the above cars and all though they are nice cars, I like to be different. 2. None of these cars seem to fit my style. 3. My wallet eats bread crusts. I need a car that has the ability to put down molten rubber on a budget, and if you can't afford to build bigger (in cubes = $$$$) you have to go lighter (in weight). So I remembered my dad telling me about the old Maverick they used to have, how it was fast with a 6 cylinder, and how it was easy to work on. Then he mentioned the Grabber cars with stock V8's and I became very interested. I've been checking around on this site, and I'm loving the Mavericks/Comets. It's incredible how much style they used to pack into every inch of car, no matter the pricing bracket. I've seen a few Mavs in person. I ended up walking around primered Maverick projects instead of the concourse Mach 1's. They have something about them that really draws your attention. Anyway, I joined up to learn more about them and look at some of the pictures. I don't have one yet, but I hope to free up some cash for one sometime in the spring when I can sell my '50 Ford project. It's cool, but It's not fast, and I don't want to hot rod an original truck; I'd feel bad. If you've read this far, thank you for your patience!

Welcome aboard John! :HandshakeA very large number of us are here for the very reasons you mentioned...being different is my main reason. I've had Mavericks since 1974 and will have till the day I die!
I'm located in Lebanon, in Hunterdon county. Used to be all farms, in fact I live on one pretty much... but then all these snooty people with BMW's and large Cube houses showed up so I don't know if it can legitimately be called farm country anymore. Lot's of straight stretches of back road around here though... I love different. I drove a '70 Pontiac Wagon (huge Station Wagon fan too) to high school, got made fun for it... but I could barely hear them over the sound of the exhaust and tire squeals :evilsmile... Welcome, John, My story is/was similar with my Dad having a 1970 Mav he drove for ten years. Like you, I want something DIFFERENT - I grow tired of car shows where all the same cars are in the same places (mustangs, 57's, camaros, etc.). The Mavericks are very unique, fun cars - and I will be looking at one this weekend, hoping to pick it up and start a project. Good luck to you! Chris
Hehehe, yea thats awesome! To bad they didn't make a bunch of those over here; I can imagine the "wow" effect of a Grabber V8 Wagon at the shows... Can you say Trophy room?
Welcome, and havent owned mine but several months, but it is great dropping by a cruise and people saying "havent seen one of those in years". Have totally enjoyed my car and the people from this site.
