A few questions about the smaller bumpers. Since my big bumpers are in dire need of reconditioning and either way I have to take them off I figured I'd ask.

1.- What years had the small bumpers? (I assume it's most or all before 1974 because my 1974 was from what I know the first year to get the big ones)

2.- Are they unsafe if i should get in a wreck? Seems to me they might be flimsier. (I'm obviously not planning to get in a wreck, but I believe in murphy's law.)

3.-What all would I need from a donor car? What would I need to fabricate or whatever?

I guess that's all I can think of right now.

First : 70,71,72 & very early 73 had small bumpers. Second: either in a wreck are going to bendup & have damage. Some do call the small bumpers the first 5 mph. bumper though! Third : seach posts for small bumper conv. they will tell you everything you need. And last do the conv. for the look if you like that you will be happy. Good Luck!

Thanks for the help. I still need to ruminate on whether or not I want to drop the old "guardrail" bumpers or not. Good to be informed, though! What I've been thinking about doing is waiting until I get a 2 door to do the conversion (Unless it has the small ones already, natch.) since I want to get a 2 door to build into more of a daily driver anyway. Thanks again for the help.:thumbs2:

All 73s had the same back bumper as the 70-72 but it was mounted on more sturdy mounts so it stuck out further. The front bumper on all 73s was bigger than the 70-72 but smaller than the 74-77.
