so ive been lookin at everyones threads regarding pertronix and i am having some trouble with mine. here are my major dilemas. so i followed the instructions to the best of my knowledge (remember here i am not really that savy, just tryin my best) and it makes like a grindish/click sound when i try to start it up

now in the instilation book and the picure tutorial i found online it did not account for the wire pictured below, kind of a wire with a rectangle metal piece that fits over a nub, looks like it should have some kind of retainer on it. what is it for, and do i still need it

also, when reinstalling the wires on teh coil it says just to use the negative and positive from the elec ignition. now there was a wire before that connected to the negative that runs back toward the block into a wrap of other wires, this is at the moment not on because it wasnt in the instructions, should i put this on the negative as well as the other wire?

i dont know guys im jsut reaching for answers anything would be of help

i wish i could take pics but i dont have a camera anymore

I believe you are talking about the condenser. Looks like a small metal cylinder with a wire coming out of it, right? If so, you don't need that anymore with the Pertronix. Your drawing also makes me think you may be talking about the rod that connects the vacuum advance can to the distributor. If that's what it is, it will have a small C clip holding it on inside the distributor. You need to leave that as is.

As for connecting it to the coil, you need to leave the wire that was already hooked to the positive side of the coil hooked up. That wire provides power for the coil and Pertronix module. Once you removed the points, there shouldn't have been any other wire left to connect to the negative side of the coil, the black wire from the Pertronix should be the only wire connected to the negative side of the coil unless the car has a tachometer installed.

If I were at home I could try and take a pic of how I have mine wired. I will look at it this weekend just incase you still need clarification. The noise you are describing don't sound good, is the cap on correctly? Check that it's not going on crooked...
:biglaugh:LOL! I thought the drawing was a Jack antena ball when I first looked at it.

hmm... well i got the wires all where theyre suposed to be, at least i think

it almost reminds me of the sound my car made when the battery was just completely dead.. i wish i had a way to take a sound bite.

hmm hopefully my neighbor will be around tomorow, he used to build race cars and has helped me fix stuff before

I would check the rotor and make sure it is seated all the way down and the cap is straight on. Look inside the cap and see if it looks damaged or scraped by the rotor and inspect the hole of the rotor for any damage there also. If good, push the rotor down firmly to make sure it is all the way down.

You say it's clicking... is the engine actually turning over? If not, you probably have a dead battery.

My bad, I thought the engine was running. Speed reading bites you sometimes. Glad it was easy...:drive:
