For Christmas we had dual exhaust put on my Maverick. 2inch off the manifolds into 2 1/4 Flowmaster 40 series mufflers. I realy like the sound of it, just have to get used to it. Compared to the single exhaust turbo muffler I had on there it's like night and day. After it got done we (my dad and I) drove the car a couple places. Then a little later I drove it up the street stopped and a red light and noticed it's acting like the idle is constantly rough like it's going to stall. Drove back home and the smell from the exhaust pipes smells like unburnt gas, I guess that means it's running rich. Any idea of what the problem is? it wasn't doing this at first. I'm Probably going to have to take it to the mechanic to see what's going on. Sure is aggravating.

Did it run bad right after the exhaust upgrade???? You may just need to re-adjust your carb now that you have a more free flowing exhaust.Or the guys who hung your system may have kinked the fuel line(doubt it)but you never know.Dirty fuel filter, dead horses in the carb.Ignition problem??? Check the basics, could be something as simple as a vacuum hose got knocked loose during the instal.

It was running fine right after. Starting acting like this about 2 hours later.

Check for vacuum leaks first, as I said above something may have gotten knocked loose. What are you running for an engine/carb/headers etc...

I don't have any good ones yet. I'm trying to address this problem at the moment.

completely understand. when was the last time the carb was rebuilt? any possibility that the diaphram might have developed a hole in it???

You might check in the area by the gas tank fuel lines. Maybe it was ready to leak and a bump occured and now it leaks. Behind the driver rear wheel...

Thanks again for the opinions guys. I'm going to call up the mechanic when they are open on Monday and see when he can work it in. My dad said he doesn't think it's a expensive problem, and I don't realy either, we're thinking it's carb related. It's just realy annoying. :banghead:

Check to make sure that none of the vacume lines got on the new pipes and melted in two.
