why. won't do you any good. too much fuel and the car would run for crap most likely. unless you modified the heck out of it.
youd really hav to open that thing up to breathe a 4bbl even the best hipo small six's are usually on 2bbls or a 3x1bbl set up
an older Gent here in town has a 4BBL on a 300 in a mid 70s' truck. it does pretty good in the 1/4 mile ...i'll see if i can get some #s next time i run into him at the machine shop... ...
My guess is thats for a 300 6 cylinder and since that is just 2 cubic inches less than a 302 I don't know why that wouldn't make a significant difference in performance, especially with a few other goodies i.e. headersand cam. Because of the long strock it won't wind real high but you will have gobs of torque.
That's exactly why some guys want 300's in their pulling trucks over a 302. More torque than the 302 and get just about the same gas mileage in stock forms in trucks.
Yeah, that intake is for the old 240 and 300 cubic inchers (which are inline 6's)... Which never came in the Maverick or Comets from the factory.. The 170 200 and 250 cid motors have their intake casted onto the head so its all one piece.. pretty dumb if you ask me. So only the little single barrel carbs are all that can be used on those motors.
So is the 300 a direct replacement for a 250? Sounds like a cool engine swap project. I bet you would get decent performance out of a Maverick with a warmed over 300-4v. Anyone ever put one in a Maverick or Comet on here? Make a nice stoplight to stoplight car...
...you would have to leave the hood off (too tall) and remove the radiator, radiator support and grille.(too long) ...:Handshake...
Go to classic inlines.com they have a new Alum hi po head for the 200,250 that you can run a 4 bbl or even fuel injection! I have an aussie head with a removable intake and a holley 2 bbl. for my 250
I have seen several pics here of 300 powered Mavericks. They have all been drag cars, no street ones that I have seen. The engine fits, but not well. The problem is hood clearance. The 300 is a tall engine. Ones I have seen pics of usually have a tall hood scoop to clear the carb. Not centered on the hood though. Usually offset to one side. Looks funny. They are said to be very fast cars with the 300 in them. I'll have to find those pics and post them if no one else does.
