Hmm a sponsor might be a good place for the money.. lol... wopw wouldn't be cool to have a sponsorship branch of MCCI, anyone who wnated to could contribute to a sponsorship fund that would get the MCCI LOGO out there on a Maverick.. Or Comet .. I wonder how much money would be raised annually, re-ups could include a check mark to donate what ever amount a person felt like to sponsor a Mav .. or Comet that races that is a MCCI member. infact the round up would be a good place to establish a winner for the sponsorship money.. HMMM I think I'd kick a little extra in on re-ups. .. hmm just thinking out loud,
Halebopp, great idea but there is SOOO much legal CRAP involved with a full-blown sponsorship that most places/people will not get involved. Usually, when searching for sponsors, you send out a thousand letters and get maybe one response. After about 10,000 sent, you MIGHT get an approval from one place. And its worse when it's not a nationally televised or advertised deal. Companies don't want to waste their money on a race car if it's not going to get them some kind of a return. But, if you get the right luck and the right place, it can be very rewarding
Exactly! That's why I was lucky to get a few free things from O'reillys before. And it wasn't exactly a sponsorship. lol Course, you guys used to get in on some of those deals 2.
Man I can't believe you even posted that. If the right people were reading this post, you could get into some trouble.... My brother was in on that. In no way would I ever consider doing something like that because 2 things will happen. One, you'll look over your shoulder continually and two you'll end up like the guy who worked at the store. This guy that was "sponsoring" him got busted and spent some time in a not-so-nice place. The store chain also sued him. Bet ya didn't know that did ya? He used to work for me, so I have heard the whole story. I don't have the kind of luck needed to get away with certain things, so I try to do the right thing most times. That way I have 2 things: Peace of mind and a sense of accomplishment That said, if I was to really put my mind to it, I COULD get some major sponsor money. In fact, a good friend of mine used to run all over creation with 'the right people' and has made a lot of money in sprint cars. I've already met some great folks through him, folks that I think could end up being an asset to a serious racing program if I were to take that route. But the main priority for us to keep racing as a family hobby rather than a "way of life". Once you start getting sponsors, dedicated bank accounts, tax write-offs, and basically set it all up as a business, all the fun starts go out the window pretty quickly. And last time I checked, we are doing this for fun, NOT the money! Sponsorships are not something that I have a real good handle on. Some companies will pay out of their business expense account. Others will give you stickers and parts, others will pay your entry fees. They're all different--and that is one reason you see so many different stickers on big time race cars. That, and contingency. NHRA races pay contingency at national events, so it's very easy to rack up some money and/or gift certificates. My boss and I discussed this a while back, and all I asked for was for him to bring in a barrel of race gas, keep it in the shop so he could keep track of how much was used on each of my race days. Sadly, he is not much of a racer but that is what it's like to chase sponsors. You have to be proactive and not take no for an answer, and I'm just too nice to sit there & tell someone that they ARE going to pay me in one way or another. At one time I had a couple grand worth of gift certificates from different places....back when the local track was paying contingency. Most of the certificates were $25 or $50 in value, I used quite a few and some came in REALLY handy (JW was a great example...I needed an input shaft for a broken powerglide and it cost me $23, IIRC, after the certificates were cashed in), others are still sitting in a file most of them expired and I wouldn't have used them anyway (like APC styling...ricer stuff...like I'd ever be able to use anything from them on a Maverick.....LOL). Ram clutches (they don't make one for a 2.3 turbo/T5, already called), HPC coatings, and the best one that I never used was from TCI. To redeem the TCI certificate, I'd have gotten $25 off of special pricing. Well, their special pricing is the jeg's cost PLUS about 25%, so it ended up being the same price as the mail order companies. They all do it differently and there are certain companies that I will go to first if I need something because they take care of the little guys like me & dad who advertise their products and win races. JW performance is probably my favorite as is Ron's Fuel Injection.
Nobody I know of got busted for anything. The 2 guys I know that were stealing things from an O'reillys got fired and I have contact with all 3 of them still. I never once took anything from a store w/o paying for it and neither did your brother. We however, did receive a battery once that was stolen, but we did not know about it at the time. I agree on the money vs fun thing. I do it for fun also, I only won money there once and that was cuz it got shut down in the quart finals. Anyways, for some reason I would have swore that you used to get 2 cars worth of oil changes for free a month.. Atleast that's what I was told. Either way, big deal... not much of a sponsorship. And I wouldnt want any place in this town to sponsor us anyways, cuz 90% of the workers here are dickheads. Im interested to see that new trailer you got. BTW tell your dad to call me in the morning. I tried calling him 2nite, I need to see if I can borrow your old trailer for an hour or 2 tomorrow to recover a vehicle that's broken down
And by me saying "I got a few things from Oreillys that wasnt exactly sponsorship" I did NOT mean I had taken anything. I just meant I was given a set of sparkplugs once. It wasn't a sponsorship because it wasn't official as in I had to put a logo on my car or anything, they just gave them to me because I had spent several thousand dollars there that year on building a truck, and the maintenance on all the things around the house. I had purchased some things and was short on cash to get the plugs so they threw them in. Also, I am very aware of who used to work for you, and why he got fired from the parts store. And this was NOT the guy that gave me the plugs. Wasn't even the same store. 2 guys from one store got fired (you worked with one) and one works as a Photo lab technician now and not sure what the one you worked with is doing anymore. The manager at the other store, who was also not the guy that gave me spark plugs, is now in charge of another store.. and Im sure you knew that. Anyways, you can assume I'm an idiot all you want, but I know what i know and why would i post that I had stolen some items, especially since I never have nor would do so.
UH I was talking about MCCI being the sponsor, just donating what ever amount members contributed to a person selected at the Roundup. I know nothing about any of this but heck if MCCI members put up a couple hundred dollars total it'd at least buy someone some gas!
