I have a 75 Maverick, 250 auto that needs a fuel sending unit. Thing is, I can order one for almost every year except 75. Would I be able to use a sending unit from another year on my 75?
Heck, I bought a new one from AutoKrafter for my 74 and it never really worked properly. It works but seems like when the guage gets to 1/2 tank, it starts dropping a lot quicker.
Pretty sure I seen them on ebay sold by some Ford guy. That's cause the car gets lighter causing you to feel the need to accelerate faster and faster using the fuel faster and faster j/k... Actually maybe cause the way the tank is shaped, half the volume may be higher than the float setting.
I really do think there is a flaw in the AK sending units. I also had one in my blue Grabber that was doing the same way. I recently replaced it with an NOS one I picked up on eBay and it works great now.
Don't say that...That's where I got mine from. It's for a 73 and I have a while to go before I find out.:16suspect
I have a 77' and have the autocrafters tank on it, but my fuel sending unit just blew out and 5-10gallons of gas shot out into the parking lot i know they dont remake the 77's but can a 70 or 71-74 fit on the 77 tank without mods? It doesn't really matter if it reads right...right now my old one got to a 1/8th of a tank and stopped..
I guess I should look for an new/old stock one. Doubt I'll find one, I can always take a chance on one out of the local junkyard but there no guarentees if it works there.
The 1971-1974 would "worK"....it just won't read correctly....but it will run the car. It will also not reach the bottom of the tank. I seem to recall the 1977 fuel senders being about 3" longer.
i have used a '73 sender in a '77 tank. i pulled the sock, put a 6" pirce of 3/8" hose on the tube and a small inline filter on the end. (works great). ......
