As I have many different loves of cars,, of course, the Maverick/Comet being numero uno, I hang out at other car forums. Got into a discussion of what would be in my garage when all of the others are sold off at the Model A forum I frequent. Being an original owner, the thinking of others is nothing foreign to me. Just thought I would share the response of a fellow Model A guy who wanted to know what 5 cars I would keep once I retire. Of course, my Stallion will be with me till the day I die. Below is his response to me.
    Dan
Cool. I can see keeping all you mentioned except the Maverick - must be for sentimental reasons. . . .

Such is life, and has been life in the Maverick/Comet world... I do not give a rats ass what this guy thinks, this is just for all of us to treasure. And yes, the Stallion is going to be kept for sentimental reasons, as well as, it is my favorite car I have ever owned, takes a complete idiot to not recognize the fact that these cars have lines that are just not met with any other car. Perfect styling, and to each his own.

Oh yeah,, I guess I should include my list of cars that will go to the grave with me.
76 Stallion 550 produced with a v8,, mine is a stick shift,, probably under a hundred produced.
79 Z-28 bought it the night John Lennon was killed,, highest number of Z-28's ever produced, really dont see it ever being a collector car, but I love it.
66 Chevy pickup,, dime a dozen
1960 Pontiac Catalina,, a car I restored about 10 years ago,, total rust bucket, blood sweat and tears in this car.
And of course my Model A,, a 1930 blindback,, extremely rare model A, I would guess there are under 500 left, and that is a strong number. Best of all mine is a low mileage, unrestored, but kept up thru the years.. Never for sale in my lifetime,, this is the car my late Dad and I worked on to bring back to life after a period of storage by the dude I bought it from,, priceless.

I know what you mean, Dan. Different strokes for different folks, I guess. I love my Mav, even though I have never driven it, just assembling the various parts from different places has been fun. My wife, on the other hand, is not crazy about it, but has seen pics of some of the cars here on the board and some of the Ga gang's cars in person and liked them. She prefers early Mustangs over Mavericks, and while I like them myself, I like to be different from the crowd. I guess that's why the Mav and I fit so good together, we're both different from everything else ........:thumbs2::tiphat:

Guys,, thanks,, but this is the way it used to be, and still is somewhat... as evident. No,, this guy has no idea of what my car looks like, I will not post a pic, or a link to my car. This is the way life was for years and years for our cars. I am just showing you a glimpse of it. My thinking always has been, it is easy to own a Mustang or a Camaro,, Heck I own one of each, and have owned several stangs. We Maverick/Comet owners are on the edge,, that is where I want to be,, the heck with the mainstream. Cut the edge and be different.

i dont get it? i think my car is damn nice looking, i mean, 2 door and small bumpers and good paint.. but for some reason most people just make fun of it or say, "oh ya that thing is sweet", in a sarcastic tone... but dont worry, i dont let it get to me cause my real friends that know something about cars, know they can appreciate it for how good of condition its in for being that old...

Since I started driving I allways had a maverick in one form or another and its allways been the same thinking about them. Die hard mav owners are a different breed for sure, we love them and thats the only reason we need.

It is hard for some people to see past the norm. They go with the crowd.

The Maverick has really great lines, you just need to sit back and look at them. When Ford went to name the car, could they have really known how fitting it was?

It's very easy to fall in line and own the same cars as everyone else. If you want to in the " in " crowd you stick with the more popular Fords, Chevys and Dodges. Everyone either has a Mustang or a Chevelle or a Charger, Cuda and so on and so on. My thinking is that you have to be a maverick to own a Maverick. There is nothing wrong with thinking outside the box, something a lot of classic and antique car owners won't or can't do. When I owned Mustangs, the general reaction was, "Wow! You own Mustangs? COOL!" When I got away from the Mustangs and moved over to the Mavericks, the reaction became more like " You got rid of your Mustang and bought THAT?! Are you nuts?". No, I'm not nuts. I'm thinking like a maverick and going beyond the norm. In a way, that's what all of us Maverick ( and Comet owners too ) are doing. We are not just thinking outside the box, we're jumping clean over it.:) If those who are still stuck in thier boxes can't accept that, well too darn bad. That's thier problem. The longest journey begins with a single step, and we are the ones taking that step. You have to be a maverick to own a Maverick, and I'm darn proud to be both.:burnout:

I get the same looks and questions. Maverick owners are Mavericks..

Definition = One that refuses to abide by the dictates of or resists adherence to a group; a dissenter.

Yes, thats me.. and its sounds like alot of you too!

The only people I care to impress is my kids........oh yeah, my wife too.

(That was close, she reads this forum)
