Allright, i've done a lot of research and still can't quite come up with a solution, my goal is to keep my torker 289 intake, and drop a 4-barrel on it but i still want to have the hood clearance to put a GOOD chrome air cleaner on it... is anyone using a torker 289 with stock hood? What carb and air cleaner are you using? and how does it perform?
You should not have any problems with that manifold and the air cleaner. My '73 has a Torker 289 on it, 4 barrel holley and a chrome air lid. Stock hood fits fine.
As of right now, with the 2-barrel that's on it with plate, it's pretty tall, and i'm a bit afraid that even with new carb because of the carb plate that it will be, that's why i was asking, as it sits, the air cleaner stud sits about 1" taller than the fenders!!!!!!
You are running a Torker 289 with a 2 barrel with adaptor plate? Once you go to the holley you can dump the adaptor plate and you'll gain some clearance.
When you run a Holley on the T289, I have found a few ways to get the hood to close... If you run a non-drop base air cleaner, use no more than 2" tall element. If you run a drop base, you can use 3" tall or a little better. Any sort of additional plate/plates below the carb are a no-no. I prefer a taller element, and drop bases flow best, so that is the way I would go if in your shoes. My .02 Dave
