heres my dilemna..

ok here it goes.. i got my mav from my grandma and have been driving it for 3 years and its been a perfect car for me this whole time.. I want to fix it up with like a v8 and convert it to disk brakes and all that good stuff but during school i dont have any extra cash. and after i graduate this year i will definatly not have any extra cash when i move out and go to college(hopefully wyotech).. if i keep driving it the quality will keep going down and if i ever needed to sell it i wouldnt get what i need out of it. in a perfect world id put it away for a couple years till i can fix it up but then i have nothing else to drive.. so heres the deal, i would like to sell it or trade it for something of equal quality, like an 80's mustang that has more power and handles better, but i cant get myself to post it in the classifieds on here.. and i really dont want it to go to someone who wont appreciate it and turn it to sh@t.. what should i do guys?

if anyone thinks they have something good to trade me pm me and i might post it in the for sale section...

 

Drive it.

 

It is a 35 year old car. There is not much you can do to it in the next 3-5 years that hasn't already been done to it. Drive it. Just don't wreck it...

Then rebuild it and add a bigger motor when you can afford it.

 

i was in the same spot as you about a year ago and wanted the bigger engine and every thing. so i just bought a 302 block and built the motor over a period of time.when ready to go in i had my parents to school and worck.and been going veer scence.

 

ya i know i "shouldnt" sell it but id rather let someone have it that will turn it into a very nice car and i can just get a newer one..

Keep it dude. It will be worth alot some day. It will always hold more value to you, for the memories.
If you sell it now, ten years from now you will regret it.

 

If you ever felt the vibration of the rumble coming from under neath... where you need to crank up the treble to the amped music...you would not even think of selling out. Oh, but you need a V8

 

keep the darn thing, you know youll regret it. look, your already on the fence now about it.

fox stangs are played out. BORING, im not a fan of too many 1980's cars but if i had to pick one...
oh wait, i already have a few of those

the maverick is probably more reliable and fixable then a fox body anyway

 

Think about it this way...
It's a 6 cyl and will just plug along forever if you keep it tuned and don't beat it.
You will get decent enough mileage and get from point A to point B for the next few years.
Don't get impatient or in a hurry.
If you sell it now, you WILL regret it.
Just get in the mindset that your plans for the car will be slow in coming, but will come. If you get rid of it, you will spend the next few years with another car you can't afford to do anything with either, then when you can afford to do something, you will wish it was the Maverick.
It's a family heirloom at least!

...think about it...selling this car ain't going to get you the money to buy an '80 nothing that is "relible".
if you don't have the money to maintain the mav. you surly want have the money to maintain a newer car...

Keep it

I say keep it too. Focus on getting through school. I had one of the best cars I ever had while in college, a 1971 Torino... gorgeous car. I lived on campus and would literally go three weeks without starting it. I was busy.

The Mav doesn't cost you anything right now and will get you around. You can't replace the sentimental value.

Hoard parts a little at a time and prep for the time after school that you can afford to follow through.

Shoot, if you go to Wyotech, see if you can make it a project car for the class. They would probably really dig it. You might get it done before you graduate. Free labor and expert supervision.

When I got involved more heavily on this board a few months ago, I was toying with selling my Comet that I have had for 15 years. I had already been through it twice, and was jonesin' for a new project. I just didn't know what more I could do with mine. Six months later, those plans have changed. I'm glad it didn't sell. We have a 2007 Mustang now, so that scratches that itch and many, many thanks to hanging around with all you guys ... I now have a plan for my Comet.

You'll get to see it done in two or three years if I'm lucky. (You see me laughing at that optimistic timeframe already).

...and no, I'm not telling what I have in mind, but ya'll are going to like it, just a bit different ...

 

I went to Wyotech on the PA campus

 

not to change the subjuct but alot of the guys in my auto tech class at the community college have said wyotech is a little to over priced for what it is. even if you do wanna go i'd look into some local campuses first, maybe even get a few lower level classes out of the way for cheap. my HS gpa was high enough that i got my whole 2 year degree paid for. i just have to buy the books and tools myself.

 

Sell your car and get out while it's worth something, and buy yourself a nice Honda or Toyota!!
