How many have truly seen all three together. And I mean not in the brochure. Just curious as the junkyard near my dad's in WV at one time had all three sitting in a row. The Mustang had been rolled (351 2V, auto w/flat hood), the Pinto had been hit in the front end and the Maverick was just in disrepair. It was totally untouched 6 cylinder auto. They've all since gone to the crusher accept for the Pinto I believe. I might have to chech it out and see if it is still there. -Matt
I have never seen the Pinto version except in publications. However, I see the Mustang Sprint and the Maverick Sprint every day. They are both in my garage here in Florida. I moved the Maverick today to work on it's brakes so I can stop it when I get it running better. If I have an opportunity in the future, I will add the Pinto to the collection to complete the trio. I was hoping to get the Stang ready for the Silver Springs show in Jan. However, in the past 3 months, I have purchased 2 Mavericks and 2 Comets and I am behind schedule. Maybe next year, I will have both Sprints ready. Then, the hunt for the Pinto begins. Jim
The Sprints were special editions made to commemorate the Summer Olympics of 1972. They are also referred to the Olympic Sprint for this reason. That is why they came with the patriotic red, white, and blue colors. When I graduated from college, I special ordered a Mustang Sprint Sportroof which I owned for many years. I loved that car. My brother-in-law ended up with it and he let it rust away. Three years ago, I found a Sportroof on Ebay and had it shipped to Fl. I have never seen another one at a car show since I have been attending the shows( 15+ years) here in Fl. They made approximately 3000 Mustang Sprints, 1800 Package A and 1200 Package B ones. That total includes hardtops, sportroofs, and 50 convertibles. I have no idea how many remain today. Mine is painted and striped but needs more work before it goes to a show. It had been off the road in storage since '93 when I bought it. Over 15,000 Maverick Sprints were produced. Only a handful remain today. Like many other Mavericks, they met the crushers, too. There are about a half dozen here on this forum. The only Sprint Maverick I have seen at a show is Mavaholic's at the Silver Springs show(nice car). I have no idea how many Pintos were produced. I would guess they are the scarcest of them all. Jim`
Very true...I don't recall ever seeing any Sprint in any show other than Mavaholics. That'll change soon though.
I was working at a ford in huntington beach ca. when they were new in 72 .I remember them all . At that time just another red white and blue ford .
At the 2002 and 2003 Roundups we had 2 Sprints. Mine and one that belonged to BIll Fife from NC. Doug Bauer bought Bill's car and brought it to the 2003 Roundup.
In a junkyard up in PA there is a Maverick Sprint and a Pinto Sprint sitting within 50 ft of each other. Both are too far gone to save.
