anybody ever ran a K&N air filter in a straight six? any noticeable changes in performance or gas mileage?

I have run K&N on my wife's V6 05 mustang, a V6 Tacoma pickup, Hemi Dodge truck, 4 cyl Mazda 3, and you can tell "seat of the pants" a 5-10 HP increase. Throttle response seems to be a little better. Gas mileage may increase as much as 1 mpg.

But, that could be "placebo effect".

Regardless, I run them on all my vehicles. Haven't got one on the Mav yet because that one will run over $100...with the cloth top and sides.

They are environmentally friendly lasting the life of the car. Almost ZERO maintenance. Every 50k miles, you wash it in soap and water, and spray $5 worth of red oil on it, and go another 50K...

Be careful of re-oiling thes filters in cars with mas air flow sensors. The oil will fry the sensor. I had to replace one in my Suburban because the previous owner used a little to much oil.

hahaha as i'm writing this, theres a k&n filter advertisement above the quick reply.... stefan... lmao.

anyways, i have one on my cavalier, the intake is louder, you can hear it "sucking"..... i think it could be a placebo effect as well as scooper, but you do feel better throttle response.... now, gas mileage actually went down, just like it did when i got my exhaust put on my maverick... the first 2 months were nothing but downshifting to hear her "talk".....

haha ya, ive never really checked my gas mileage.. i just know how far i can go on a quarter tank haha... anyways i got another question. ever since i got my new exhaust (1.5in. to 2.25in.) i cant seem to do a breakstand burnout on dry pavement like i could with stock exhaust, maybe its just cause its hotter out and the pavement is more sticky but i dont know.. does anyone know why this is?

You lost some of you`r low end torque but you should have more mid range now . I don`t know if you`l gain any real power with the K&N but it could help you to be able to do a burnout again and if no thing else you`l never need to replace it again .

did you just get a filter or a whole new aircleaner? i put a 3-4'' inch open aircleaner on my 250 and i coulddefinatly feel a diffrence. only problem is if it wasnt for the hood scoop theres no way it would fit under a stock hood
