Does anyone have pictures of their exhaust set up?

I'm trying to get some ideas for what I want to do. I have 6901s with a 3inch collector. I plan on getting 3inch to 2 1/2inch cutout outs and then running 2 1/2inch pipe to a side exit. But I want to see if people are running h-pipes or x-pipes or anything. So any pics would be great

Here's the best I can do for you....no H pipes or X pipes....nothing fancy. Just headers going into 2 1/4 pipes run through 2 1/2 inch glasspacks back down to 2 1/4 inch pipes that dump out between the leaf springs and the rear quarter panels..... I LOVE the way it sounds....Just wide open and raw.....I think now would be the time to say that it is L-O-U-D !! I t is VERY loud once you get on it....nice rumble and burble at idle but after that....:yup::D I love it. Did I mention that? :D Anyway, it's very simple but it does just what I want it to. I've been pulled over several times because it's so loud once you get on it. Of course the cops heard it both times at about 4500 RPM's......I didn't bother to tell them that it'll get even louder.....;) Good Luck! Preston

I liked how my muffler guy tucked everything WAY up and kept everything as parallel as possible. The car is on wheel dollies and usually sits about 6" lower than this. Otherwise, I would not have been able to get under there and take a pic...

Hangers are attached to the rear seat-belt bolt holes. No rear seat or belts in right now, so I am using those holes strictly for the hangers. I will just put a longer bolt on when I install my seats and stick a nut on to hold the hangers.

I skipped the H/X pipe because I have to remove the entire driver side exhaust to move my header out of the way to mess with spark plugs and wires on the driver side P head. Otherwise, I would have added that as well.

Also, notice how the pipes, mufflers (super 44 only 4" thick) and everything hangs no lower than my subframe connectors (yes they are rusty, they need to be before POR-15 will stick to them). Also, he left me a nice wide access area to mess with my drive shaft.

Just a couple things I asked for extra that should be given without asking...

I don't have an X or H pipe, though I will once I get the exhaust on the Grabber. If you have the h-pipe bolted in you can easily remove it to drop the tranny or whatever. Really I think even if you don't you should be able to unbolt your collectors and drop the front of the system fairly easily. I will chase down pics of the underside, but you won't want to do it the way mine is anyway, my mufflers are right behind the collectors... noisy and kind hot, but it was easy for me to do in my garage without having to go back to the muffler shop and give him more $. The main thing I would suggest doing differently is have the pipes exit in front of the spring eye. Mine cross over the leaf spring behind the eye, and I have to cut them off to install my traction bars. They turn out right in front of the recessed area under the seat. With the mufflers where they belong, side exit takes more pipe bending, or there are mufflers with the in and out in front for doing side exit tips.

Edit: here it is the pic :

Mine was set up exactly like 5.0, but with 24" glasspacks, and it was hot. Had to remove them when I put in cal-traks since they exited right where the exhaust pipe comes out in front of the wheels.

Warning about exhaust dumps (I just gave mine away because of this...) I only had about 3" ground clearance with the dumps. About an inch less than the headers. Doesn't sound like much, but they will hit everything.

Besides, they sound good, but run like crap on mild engines, so I recently elected to rebuild the exhaust with Flowmasters and lose the dumps.

OH yeah I never posted that pic before.. my mufflers hang up on the back edge of the trailer when I try to unload my car. Another reason not to put them there. :D I originally had glasspacks but they were obnoxious on my motor. The Flows with the reducers were exactly the same length.. that's why they are there.

I tried to put my car (with dumps) on a U-haul trailer, and the dump-flange hit hard as a rock. No give whatsovever. I even broke the tires loose hoping to bend the metal chunk on the trailer that was hung up (held up the license plate). I had to unhook the trailer from the truck, use the jack on the front of the trailer and get the front end WAY up, then drive over the license plate bracket, and lower the trailer back onto the trailer hitch.

I am pretty sure my entire setup would clear that now.

Hey Grabber5.0 do you have pics of underneath the car where the side exit is? I want to see how they're attached if they even at all

No but I can get one. There are exhaust hangers bolted to the inside of the frame rail and welded to the pipes. It's funny because it's probably just barely out of that picture. :)

Did everyone just go to a small local exhaust shop or was it just a Meineke or something?

Yeah, local shop referred by a friend. Even then, they couldn't figure out how to run dual exhaust out the back of a 77 because of the 19 gallon gas tank, that's why I had the side dumps put in, I think it only cost $40 for the work, already had the Flowmasters (Delta Flow 40 series)

I used a local guy, supposed to be the best, for the previous 3 jobs (2 maverick, one on my truck). He screwed all of them up in some way. Cheap brackets that later broke was the main problem, crappy bends, unparallel piping, welding to my frame, and worst, catching my carpet on fire (that one put me behind BIG time).

I asked the local high dollar car restoration guys for his suggestions and he said to use the guy that did all of the above damage. I asked for his second choice and he did the current work. VERY good work. Did everything I asked for and NONE of the above.

So, ask around. Ask guys that know the best. Racers, restoration crowd, etc. Even the local new car dealerships or body shops may know.
