If I remember, mine came from a very early 70's or late 60's van. The type with the flat nose. Tons of 9 inch rears in those old vans. Way too wide but great center sections. You need to look for lower gears anyway. The ones in that Ghia are real high. Mine were somewhere in the mid 2.00's.
wouldnt the ford van 9" center sections have 31 spline axles instead of the 28 like the monarch has???
Trucks and vans used both 28 and 31 spline axles. You'll have to do a search or ask someone who knows the detail, but there are ways to tell 28 and 31 splines by looking at the axle hubs at the brake drum. I don't know how true it is, but I have heard that 28 splines are far more common in trucks before about 75. After that, 31 splines are more common. I'd like to know if that is true or not...
well the reason i ask is once again, my guy with the junkyard comes thru..... he actually has an old 6-cylinder Econoline 'flat-nose' van. i may be able just to buy the whole thing reasonable but i was wanting to know about the spline count first.
hey Dave, just wanted to let you know that the seat tracks are power seat tracks just in case you still might be interested in them if i dont use them in anything. just thought i would mention the 'power' part. the car also has p/s, p/w, p/b with hydro-boost, front and rear defrosters, dealer installed CB radio (stamped Ford on the back), AM/FM stereo, cruise, tan leather, vinyl top.....lol. you know it, it has it minus the V8 engine. it only has a 250 in it, so im hoping for a little better gear since it's a 6-banger
If you are looking for a posi unit, just make sure the van has one first. Not all of them had them. I found 28 splines to be the more common axles.
well some updating news...... in my newly aquired granada/monarch parts car that has the 9" rear disc differential, i also discovered that it is an axle code 'J' which is indicated by the granada/monarch/versialles forum that has 2.50:1 gear ratio but is a limited slip rear end..... yup, i said it right.... it's posi. i plan to swap out the gears later on so so far i think ive gotten my money's worth out of the car.... here's what it looks like.. (oh, and there's around 180 or so cars at this guy's house/junkyard)
Sweet. Our source of cheap parts here abouts went out of business last year. The owner was smashed when his forklift fell over on top of him. The family crushed the whole yard.
