well today while i was off i went up to an old junkyard that i have been getting some parts out of and just happen to glance over and seen a 78 mercury monarch ghia. what was special about it was that it was a 2door bucket seat car, and had the console needless to say i left today with a good passenger side sport mirror and that center console. it was tan and woodgrain untill i disassembled it and painted and dyed it black. turned out great.... see for yourself
i did not know that some were 9" rear disc cars. ill be sure to go back and check it out. and the seat tracks will work in a maverick???????? if so, i did not know this :16suspect
Granada/Monarchs both were available with 9" rears. Drum brakes are by far most common, but they could also be had with discs. Either rear is suitable for a Maverick. The drum is probably the better of the two nowadays. Discs were good to find in the past, but now late model 8.8" discs can be fitted to 9" rears. The modern discs are far lighter in weight and parts are much cheaper when it comes time to service them. I don't know for sure on the seat tracks, however I read it here on this site that they use the same bucket tracks as 75-up Mavs with the converter hump. I need a set of those myself for my 75. Dave
ok, i went back and took a look at the car and wouldnt you know it...... it has a 9" with rear disc so needless to say i just bought the whole car. i need the front disc's anyways for my '67 stang so ill prolly just put the whole suspension under it. im not sure if ill use the buckets or not. i mainly bought it for the suspension and some odd ball peices. but anyways, i thought it was a great deal for $200
DAYUM! Great score! Last Granada rear I had was drum, got it for 80 bux and turned around and sold it for 300. You could make you money back plus some in theory. But that 9" probably already has a home in your Mav, I hope... Do we get a finders fee for cluing you in?!? Maybe dibs on a set of seat tracks!
that could be a possibiliy, if i decide not to use the seats/tracks. thanks for the help again. i plan to have the the car home hopefully by this weekend, but next weekend at the latest. itll take a full day just to pull the car out. ill get some pics and keep everyone posted. what would the tracks be worth, btw???
oh, and it has a hydro-boost power disc brake setup as well. i didnt even know hydroboost came on a car in '78
I had that feeling that you might get lucky. :bananaman Now go look at some lowly 6 cylinder Ford vans and you might find a 9 inch posi unit - that's where mine came from - plus it had 4.11 gears too.
