anybody know what tires our cars had on them when they rolled off the assembly line? coker tire sells, some different types, what sizes came on mavericks new? :Handshake
You should have a decal on the passenger side B-Pillar with the tire sizes for your car. If my memory is correct stock on a 71 would have been C78-14
But wasn't that still an optional tire size? I know I saw at least one Marti report on a 71 Grabber and it was a one of one, because, you guessed it, it came with B78-14s. rk
I have seen the Firestone Wide Oval tires on invoices, and in ads depicting Comet GT's when new. I have seen dual thin whitewalls and single whitewalls as well as white letter tires. I have a pic of a new Comet GT-1973, and the tires only read 'GoodYear'.
I had a set of coker F70-14s on my Comet last year. I've since switched over to radial tires. IMO those bias ply tires have no place on cars as light as ours are. I sure don't miss having to saw the wheel every time I went for a ride! Steve/ITSACOMET!

I've heard that... .....I wasn't driving then(early 70's), but it's hard to believe that tires used to be that bad. I guess they are good for show cars only. Funny, old belted L-60's didn't seem to be that bad back in the early 80's. If I had a spare set of the aluminum slots, I would consider a set for shows. Seth
They ARE great looking tires but, when I was on the freeway, it was a nerve racking experience over sixty mph
