so i'm getting married in september and then i'm going to be moving into a house with a garage and i have decieded to completly tear down my car and start a ground up restoration. i'm starting to get excited about the idea. i'm also going to build a freakin sweet 351w to drop into it. this is going to be my first rebuild so i'll be on here alot more asking alot more quesitons. i'm glad this web page is here for all the info i'm going to need.
Welcome to the complete tear down club. I gutted mine to it's last nut and bolt and it sits sideways on my home built roll over stands. I have learned so much from taking the car apart and am so grateful of this board and it's members that come here. I have had so much positive responses to all of my questions so far. Hopefully I can remember how to put it all back together again.
Bag and label ever nut, bolt & part as you dismantle it. Trust me, it will make it 100 times easier to reassemble. Good Luck!!!
Have fun, and take your time. Plus make sure you have lots of room to store all the parts your taking off, they almost take up more space than the complete car.
Sorry to hear about the marraige...... Congrats on the car project...Does the new wife like the car? I got lucky, mine liked cars.... or I just wore her down........
Only way to go, I had boxes with lids and labled the boxes as to what major component all the little labled bags came from such as right door, right fender, grill, trunk etc. Made for a bigger stack, but sure was MUCH easier to put it back together. And I still had a couple of bags that ended up in the wrong box, but it will keep you from losing small parts and it will let you use the right parts in the right places. Trust me after you toss a bunch of small nuts into one container they are hard to put back to the right place, especially after a nap or two, let alone a month or two or three! rk
the soon to be whife is perfectaly fine with my car hobby. she knows it's who i am and wont stop me from enjoying it. i was planning on using those buckets that laundry detergent come in to put all the parts in. i am of course going to label every thing. and now i think that i will do what you guys suggest and put small parts in bags and label them to and then they will go into the buckets.
