I have a 1971 Comet Gt that was bought new by my mom in 71. I'm now trying to restore it. I was wondering if I should keep the stock rear end or switch to a 9 inch? If so what will fit with out doing any major mods. Also I want to go with disc brakes and install a brake booster' is there any old Fords or Mercury's that might fit so I don't have to purchase high dollar aftermarket stuff? I think some of the newer Maverick's and Comet's have disc brakes but only have 4 lug pattern' I have 5.

If your stock rear is an 8-inch, just keep that.

The only brake booster that will fit is a '75-'77 Maverick/Comet booster. You would also need the entire brake pedal assembly and support bracket. You would also have to cut a hole in the firewall. You need to change the lines and proportioning valve to the corresponding parts. It can be done and has been done. 'Sound like fun? You really don't need it though, as manual disc brakes work just fine on Mavericks.

You can get the disc brake spindles, calipers & rotors from Granadas. Monarchs, Versailles, and Mavericks/Comets.

All disc brake Mavericks are 5-lug...
