Clamping the springs is an ols stock/superstock trick,it makes the front of the spring act somewhat solid and cutting the clamps off the rear of the spring will let it open up and separate.All in all it helps eliminate spring wrap [When the front of the spring bends under accelleration] I have a friend he's a drag racer for years with a 427 Fairlane that he races in stock eliminator.All he has for traction aids is clamped springs and the car runs well into the tens.
