I am sure this has been asked before but here goes..... BTW I am not saying anything bad about either/or so I just want to know what people like.

So does anyone on here actually llike the big bumper Mavericks better than the small bumper cars or do people own the because someone in they knew in the past had one, or that was the first maverick they seen and that is what they were used to or what??

Please don't take this wrong I personally like the little bumper Mavericks but think the large bumper mavericks look good too. I just like one a lot more than the other.

I was just curious if some people actually like the looks of the big bumpers Better than the small bumpers or do they just except them because they are part of the Maverick's history

I like big bumpers, my first Maverick was a 74 Grabber, I've never owned a small bumper car, I don't class my 73 as a small bumper car, it's a mix of both. A Mavericks a Mavericks big bumpers or small, Comets too.

My first Maverick was a 69.5 bought in 69.5. I traded that one in for a 76. About 10 years later I bought a 73 4-door, which I sold in 93. I have a 73 Grabber now. So I've had big bumpers, small bumpers and half-way in between.

I like Mavericks, no matter which bumper is on them. However, the early small bumpers didn't provide much rear-end protection in a crash. We've all heard about Pintos exploding. Well early Mavericks with small bumpers were prone to that too, so I feel safer in a big bumper car.

i like the small bumper look.. i think the big bumpers are out of proportion to the rest of the car.. the only reason they have big bumpers, was because of the changing safety regulations in the 70's

yeah see this is what I am talking about. Most people that have the big bumpers want to swap them to the small bumpers and I know the big bumpers only came out of safety regulations. So I was just curious if there are people that really do prefer the big bumpers?

With all the years that had big bumpers and all the folks that would like to swap them for the smaller ones it seems like someone would come out with an aftermarket kit that includes the bumpers, brackets, valences and such to do the swap without having to hunt and peck for the pieces. I think since 74-77 had the big bumpers and 70-72 had the little ones and 73 well is half and half I think the 70 -72 sales figures were greater but 74-77 has that added year so there are probably as many big bumpers running around that people would like to change as there are small bumper cars that like what they have, so a kit with all the parts would be handy.

Anyone want to make a bussiness venture????

Why not just put an earlier model bumper on the later model car, or won't they fit? I have a 1972 bumper for sale, with all the parts to attach it. Why reinvent the bumper, so to speak?

Well I think with the big to little conversion you have to have the brackets, and the valence is also another part that the big bumper cars do not have but the little bumper cars do and then there is some kind of clip that attaches the little bumper to the quarter extention or something like that. so there is more than just swapping a bumper and if someone put all those parts in a kit and sold it I bet they would make a small $$$$$ at least until most of the big bumpers were changed over to little ones, but with the production figures on mavericks and the amount that are left on the road I would think that would take many many years.

In my opinion, its the way they are mounted that makes them out of proportion. If you look back at the 50's and 60's, a lot of those bumpers are pretty big too. If you take a big bumper car, pull them up tight and narrow them so they fit tightly around the body, they look a thousand times better than stock.

I like the small bumpers better...but I don't dislike the big bumpers. It really doesn't bother me. I like big bumpers because:

    1. My first mav was a 1974
    2. You can usually buy big bumper Mavericks way cheaper than small bumper Mavericks.

What turns me off quicker than big bumpers? Ugly A$$ colors: Brown, green, etc. I would much rather have an average big bumper red Maverick than have a mint condition brown small bumper Maverick.

to add to what Dennis said, RADMAV did the perfect job on a big bumper maverick when he did his 77'.... IMO :)

I agree. When I first saw his car the big bumper was not the first thing my eyes went to. Looked fantastic to me.

I still like small bumpers though. I had a big bumper nova when I was younger and all the jokes must have stained me for life:huh: .
